  • Our Trip to the El Capitan: When I See an Elephant Fly

In honor of the re-release of Dumbo on DVD, on June 6th, the El Capitan is showing Dumbo until June 7th. CaptPhoebus, Morrigoon, and myself made the trek up to the theater to watch it on the big screen one more time. Tonight, in addition to the show, we were treated to a panel discussion featuring animator Eric Goldberg, songwriter Richard Sherman, and music historian Miles Kreuger about Winnie the Pooh (who turns 80 this year), Dumbo, and other personal Walt Disney stories. We however arrived late for the discussion and missed out on most of it, catching only the last couple minutes. The only part I remember is Mr. Sherman talking about how musically diverse the music in Dumbo is. Watching the movie, I noticed just how many different styles of music were used in the movie. Even included in the admission price, was the animated short "Winnie the Pooh and Hunny Tree." This was the first Pooh short to be made by the Walt Disney Studios (1966).

Just have to say that the staff was tremendously helpful and courteous to us. They even introduced us to Eric Goldberg and Richard Sherman. Pics are below for all to enjoy.
