  • Whats for dinner....... or how many ways not to turn on the oven this summer ?

I decided it was a Summer where no oven would be turned on, so I got several cook books on easy meals with out baking. So far I have bbq'd and microwaved. crock potted, and thank god today I can acually turn the oven on , its cold here and lots of snow is predicted again.
    Dinner tonight,

    turkey
    acorn squash
    stuffing
    mashed potatoes and gravy
    broccoli and cheese
    and apple sauce.
whats on your dinner menu tonight?

So far my kids have been very happy about the meals with out having to use the stove. what do you cook when its to hot, to even thing about turning the oven on ?

I feel for you hakuna - luckily, I'm a little lower than you and it's just raining like crazy.

But, my dh has found a new hobby - dutch ovens. I think he's spent over $300.00 this weekend in dutch oven accessories. He's invited a bunch of friends over for dinner - and he's never used a dutch oven before!!! We may be calling out for pizza.

Mmm, leftover Chinese food from lunch!

My mom likes to Stir fry and make stuffed peppers when it'shot out - not suer if that'd fly at your place though! And grilling, my dad grills almost every day!!
        Good morning, son
        In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
        It was pain
        Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Sorry to sound like a hick from West Texas (which I am), but what's a dutch oven? Is it something like a crock pot?
As nice as the other parks are, we must always remember that it all began at Disneyland. Disneyland should be the crown jewel in the Disney crown.

Dutch oven is similar to a cast iron skillet, but is a pot. You use it over a campire or on a charcoal grill. The food is amazing!!

Karla, I'm big on stir fry meals and fajitas. I enjoy both and with either tortillas or rice, they are very simple to make. In the same vain, tacos are very simple. If you use chicken, you can cook the chicken, do stirfry, fajitas and tacos all from the own batch of chicken.

My sister brought her dutch oven when we went camping and she made some awesome meals! I bought one for my husband last year; he has yet to break it in.

Taco salad is a great no-oven dinner. I also like fried rice, spaghetti, and most anything in a crock pot.

Okay all - the food was so good. My husband soaked ribs all night - they were yummy - he did dutch oven potatoes with cheese and bacon, biscuits and a peach cobbler. It all turned out great! He also learned to line the dutch ovens with tin foil - and the clean up was so easy.

Did he season the ovens before using them? That should help with clean up too, although the foil idea seems easier!

Karla - I had a few more thoughts.
In the summer we have sandwiches alot. BLT's and Club are usually hits at my house.
We also make alot of salads. If you add either grilled chicken or beef to a green salad, you've got a full meal.
