  • Good radio stations in Orange County

Hey, I spend two weeks of my summer vacation each year in Southern California. And a small portion of that time is spend driving around Orange County going to restaurants, beaches, etc.

I would like some local help regarding good radio stations. I can never remember the frequencies or music genres when I'm playing with the radio. All I ever seem to find is a plethora of Hispanic stations which are beyond my linguistic capabilities.

I prefer modern rock music, but just hit me up with all of your favourite music stations.

Feel free to visit my favourite local radio station, 99.3 The FOX. cfox.com

    Hmm... I listen to
    Star 98.7 - Top 40/ '80s stuff
KOLA 99.9 - Oldies rock for the Inland Empire area (read: somewhat flaky reception around Orange County)
K-Earth 101.1 - Oldies rock for the LA and Orange County areas
    K-Big 104.3 - Top 40/ '70s/ '80s stuff

I've pretty much abandoned the radio.

Same here. Why listen to crap when you can listen to exactly what you want (and with no interruptions)?

I will normally listen to my iPod, though when in my car I refuse to listen to headphones while driving (I really need to get an adaptor to listen to it in the car) so the radio it is.

Well, with Kevin and Bean (KROQ), you have to take the good with the bad.

                  My L.A. FM presets:
                  1. KCRW 89.9 -- a local NPR station
                  2. 93.1 Jack -- wife put this one on back when it was Moldy Rock Singles. It will soon figure out which songs are "Change the Station, NOW!" songs.
                  3. KLOS -- again, the wife. I've heard every one of these songs, back in the 70's, when/where they belong. And, ugh, so should M&B stay.
                  4. STAR 98.7 -- not so bad. Clear Channel (bad) programmed, so the "Change the Station, NOW!" songs are not on the playlist. Morning duo is too ribald for my kids.
                  5. K-Mozart 105.1. Mellows out the kids.
                  6. KROQ 106.7 -- new rock not found on STAR, at least not for another five years or so. Cases in point: all new alt-rock, from U2 to No Doubt were heard here first.

AM 690, but fogey music might not be your thing

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

I can't remember the station I used to listen to down there anymore. At the time, it was the one always playing in cast costuming, and it was a legitimate independent station

It's kind of irrelevent anyway because it was bought out by a spanish station awhile ago anyhow, so it's gone. But I liked it while it was around. Whatever it was.

I'm sure it comes as no surprise that my fave station is JACK FM.

If not just for the name, it has a pretty good mix. They are still working out the bugs though.

                              Gotta love it.
She said all she heard was wind, which was insulting, as my phone was in my back pocket...
