    SPELLING NATZI!

    Ok people...the word is A LOT......not ALOT!
Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
    Marge: Pink.
    Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

            Re: Spelling rant.....

I'm adding mine...the word there, their or they're.

There is a location, as in over there.

Their or theirs is possessive, as in their house is over there, or that car is theirs.

            and

They're is they and are together. They're going to Disneyland!

            o.k., that's it.

            thanks

            It's always me

I keep my dictionary right next to my computer, and when I am not sure about the spelling of a word, I look it up.

Capitals at the start of sentences are nice too.

                    I agree...

It is (very) hard to take a post seriously when there are spelling and grammar errors in it.

I know that some folks are lax when it comes to internet forums, but it shines through loud and clear.

                        Re: Spelling rant.....

And remember: the apostrophe is for posessives and contractions, not plurals!

Goons - more than one goon: "Capone sent his goons after me, and they broke my kneecaps."
Goon's - Either belonging to Goon: "I grabbed Goon's camera." or contraction of Goon and is: "Did you hear that Goon's a Realtor now?"

I can't tell you how sick I am of seeing the entire world get this one wrong. I've even seen very slick, professionally produced advertising with this same, stupid mistake in it!

The only place people should be having any confusion over when to use the apostrophe is with its and it's

it's- it is: "It's going to be hot at DL on July 17th"
its- Not plural, oddly enough. It's the posessive form of it, as in: "My shirt lost one of its buttons"

REMEMBER: if you see an apostrophe, either somebody owns something, or it is standing in for missing letters!

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

                            Re: Spelling rant.....

I think folks also need to keep in mind that there are those among us with writing disabilities, ADHD, dyslexia, vision impairment, etc.

My fiance is one such person who is highly intelligent and educated, yet he struggles with writing comprehension (actually classified as a writing disability), to the point that he has problems with spelling, punctuation, and even grammar. Even when concentrating, it takes him 15-20 minutes just to write a paragraph that still contains quite a few errors, and spell check doesn't correct synonyms either.

Maybe it's a good thing he doesn't get the chance to post too often. I'd hate for him to irritate anyone and/or be made fun of just for posts on a message board.

                              I totally agree with you.

Communicating in a forum that survives on the typed word, posts which do not use close to correct grammar are passed over by this MiceChatter. Every so often is one thing, but every post and you start to affect how seriously people on the board will take your posts.
Anything listed on the park maps as an attraction is fair game for inclusion in the Rally.
I cannot confirm nor deny the inclusion of any attraction in the Rally.
