  • The story of ice.

A friend just sent me a file with some of my e-mails from 1998 and since that contained stories. I thought I would share some. I hope you enjoy it.

I am here to tell you about the origin of the word, ice. This one goes back to the middle ages. It was in this time frame that an English soldier made the discovery that if frozen water was chopped up into small blocks that it could be transported easily. This discovery of course led to the invention of the first cooler but that is another story. Anyhow, this soldier showed his discovery to one of his superiors. When questioned about the usefullness of such a discovery he explained that one could keep food from rotting too quickly. This continued up the line until word of this discovery reached the leader of the army. By this point the explanation had been simplified to "it's cold everywhere". Well the leader liked this so much that he made it part of the regular items that the army would be issued. Well to sum up, this had the effect that it does with everything military. The army simply decided to give it the acronym I.C.E. and that is how frozen water has come to be known as ice.
Ooo, heaven is a place on earth.
