Okay, so let me tell you what happened to me today and you tell me if you think this lady was crazy or I should have just minded my own business.
Yesterday I get some mail for someone other than my family that was forwarded to our address with a note from the postal lady that if they mail wasn't ours to just leave it in the mailbox. My daughter is the one who gets the mail everyday (her thing) and I noticed there was a VA check with some Netflix in the stack for this person.
So I figured that they probably just moved into the apartment complex and just gave the wrong address. Considering its a VA check and the poor guy probably needs his money, I walked over to the office to pass along a message.
I get in there and the postal lady is in there filling up her water bottle and I talk to the girl working and I tell her I got this mail for Bob (not his real name) and I don't want to know where they live but I was hoping you could forward a message for me. I figured they probably just moved in and they just gave the wrong street address at the post office and considering this is his VA check I figured he would want to know about it.
At that point the Postal lady comes over, SNATCHES the letters out of my hands and goes, "No M'am you can't do that." I said, "Wow, I just know that if I give this back to you that the guy probably won't get his money for another 2-3 weeks or longer and if he just inverted a number and lives next door, I thought it would be better just to give him the mail." She goes, "No M'am, I'll take care of it." I said, "I was just trying to help, it's quite simple real... She goes, "I SAID I would take care of it." I said, "I was just trying to be helpful, I guess that's what I get for being neighborly." She goes, "Thanks for your help." I said, "Your not welcome at all with that attitude."
At this point I turned to the girl who was just kind of standing there and I told her, "Can you just please give him the message that he forwarded his mail to the wrong address?" Miss Postal lady makes a pfft noise and turns back to filling her water bottle.
Now I realize that its against the law to open other peoples mail but am I breaking some law trying to find the person to GET them their mail? I didn't even want to know the address, just wanted to see if the office would let them know about it.
So what do you think?
