  • Dollar Stores / 99 Cent Store

What is the deal with these stores??

I understand most of the stuff is unknown brands and they can get the 99 cents or a dollar for this stuff. But how is the national brands stuff only a dollar? I've seen Heinz and Kellog's, Hersheys syrup. I don't remember all, but there was name brand stuff there. How come we pay so much at Albertson's etc., and so cheap at the Dollar Store?

And who the heck is trusting hair color and a pregnancy test that only costs 99 cents!!??

I bought 5 birthday cars for 99 cents there once. They also sell expired things.

This is quite common. They also sell stuff from stores that are closing as well as what would be called "fire sale items".

Name brand things are usually expired (but still good) or close to expiration

They sell expired foodstuffs at Big Lots too. I admit I buy candy there cheap sometimes. I went nuts when they had packs of Red Vines for 80¢.

It's really buyer beare. However yo ucan really find some awesome things in there if you look. For example some of these stores sell CD's. I've found many a out of print CD that I have been looking for to add to my collection at these tyep of stores. Also you'll find foodstuffs that you will not usually find at the local grocery store. Like last December you could buy three huge bottles of IBC Root beer for a dollar. They are expensive at the store...and just in regular size bottles. Also the only other place I can find Goo Goo Clusters is overpriced at Cracker Barrel.

I LOVE Big Lots.. it's nto really "dollar store," but it's a discount store. *sighs* Big Lots is dreamy.... minus the bathroom.

To live would be an awfully big adventure.

                  One more thing.

You may get stuff cheaper at albertsons than the 99 cent store. Like at albertsons you can get candy for 69 cents when at the 99 cent store its 99 cents.

my dollar store has brand name dog toys that I've later seen at Tarjay for 4-6 each. I always stock up on those

I love to get cheap plastic bowls, etc. for camping. Ballons and party supplies (toys for goodie bags, etc)

I feel weary about the food items, though I confess to buying a mini pack of pringles and a diet coke once!

Disney could NEVER operate a 99 cent store. In one year they'd hike the prices to be a 56.99 store.

at 99 cent only stores (my fave!) the inddividual candy is 3 for 99

A lot of the name brands are overstocks or discontinued items. I've been getting the Kelloggs lower sugar cereals there and I always get my water jugs there.

When I was in high school, my friend worked in the dollar store @ the mall and she'd always tell us what food was good to get and wat was way expired

The silk leaves on our wedding invitations came from the dollar store - 100 of 'em per bag. We've also acquired quite a few high-quality fall silk vines.

Some of the stuff is nice, but a lot is crap from what I see. And, I won't buy food there. I am very cautious about food, having had food poisoning from expired/near-expired stuff before.

Alot of what i've seen in there is crap, stuff written on, broken, used, etc.

Usually I only go there when I need stickers for Garage Sale.
