For where? In the US, there are several big, reputable companies. My personal favorite is National Car Rental followed by Alamo (not just because of the Disney marketing tie ins!
Hertz and Avis are also, usually, good - I have not had as good of experiences with those companies (wait times and customer service), but there is nothing wrong with the cars......
I used Enterprise when I was rear ended a few years ago. The Auto Club paid for the rental for a month with a rate under $30 per day (car was a Trans Am) and it was very simple to return it.
I want to hire one for three months and be able to take it all across the country, which I'm finding hard. They all seem to have only 1 month rentals or limit you to three states

Dollar is good, too.
Could you rent as you go along? That seems like it'd be a pain in the patootie though!!
Good morning, son
In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
It was pain
Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things... sigpic
