  • Why do you enjoy being scared??

With Halloween coming up and haunted houses opening, horror movies popping up everywhere, I just have one question?

Why do people enjoy being scared? I personally love rollercoasters and height rides (like maliboomer) that usually scare people - I usually don't have nightmares after riding them, just a huge adrenaline rush. But, I can't stand scary movies or horror flicks. I have friends that live for them, and can't get enough - so, what's your reasoning?

Well, starting back in High School, I had an alterior motive for wanting to go to scary movies...It involved my dates practically jumping in my lap when they got scared! LOL

Maybe it's the thrill of the scare without the actual harm being able to happen to you?

    Nah...It was the girls!

    LOL

Mmm - I'm with you, Jen. I love the adrenaline rush of rides, but hate scary movies. Even though I know they're fake, I don't like it. I think I'm also one of the few people that doesn't get a kick out of those Halloween mazes.

For a good thrill ride..I like to challenge myself to go on the ride..then there is the adrenaline rush once your on it. There are very few movies that really scare me although I like it when it happens.

Re: Why do you enjoy being scared??

Not a big fan of horror flicks. Not a big fan of haunts either (like Knotts or all the other small independent haunts that you see all over town).

HOWEVER - I do like to be on the other end doing the haunting. My friend and I used to build a haunt together for years and had such a blast. It all started in his folks garage in 1988, grew to be a fund raiser for a couple churchs, we even did it one year at a rec center to earn $$$, then went back to our passion of doing it just for fun at he and his wifes house.

Now he does one professionally in Mesa, AZ

I wish I had the time and money to do haunted Halloween stuff. The woods I live in would be a great setting.

Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
                        It was pain
                        Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

I'm a strange one...I can't watch scary movies for my life because I get too freaked out and then have difficulty sleeping after but I love Knott's Scary Farm!! I guess it's the adrenaline rush that you get when someone scares the crap out of you but you know that you're still safe?

                          My best score ever!

In a controlled environment, being scared can be fun. The adrenaline rush is exiciting, especially when you know nothing bad will really happen to you.

Re: Why do you enjoy being scared??

My job can be beyond scary sometimes, in terms of the stress it creates...and I'm in no control over it. So I do enjoy the scares and the creeps when they are in a controlled environment. It cleans the system and gets the heart pumping.

I, too, love to scare people. I write horror stories on occasion to accomplish this, but I have, in the past, created haunted houses in garages and once in an attic.

Fear is healthy and a normal response.

                                Peace,
                                Roo

I once heard from a wise old man (lululemon bad) that if you get scared twice a day you become mellow.

I don't enjoy being scared. i don't find roller coasters scarey...they are more thrilling. I went ti knotts scary farm once. Allt he screaming was driving me crazy. The mazes were to claustrophobic and I talked to the monsters,....like, "could you step back..excuse me you need to move..."..and then they would let me walk by. My sisiter was so mad because I wasn't into it...w/e....I was also very sick and very medicated when we went.

oh, and I hate scary movies if they are gory...I don't mind susupensful, but I hate the gore.

I don't like being scared. Things like haunted houses and scary movies don't scare me - the are an annoyance really. Fact of the matter is, REALITY scares me. I don't need something created to scare me. Knott's Scary Farm - aggravates me, is annoying and I don't got - don't go to Knott's anyway - my wife and I say "We're not Knottsies". HAHAAHHA

I don't live in fear, but when I hear about bombings or school hold ups - those are reality and they scare me.

I think Halloween should be fun and light. On the tram as you leave parking structure, they have that new little 'scene' as you come around the turn and it's so cool - because it's fun and light. That is the part of Halloween that I LIKE.

No, I don't like being scared by made up things - they don't scare me.
