My parents never helped me on any that I can remember

BUT, can I tell you how much fun I had helping Kyler with his last science project!! He did one on gum and how long flavors last and everything. We did it totally together and had so much fun. The reward afterwards was he told me "I had so much fun doing this with you, and it was so cool that you didn't take over like dad does we did it all together"
Granted he didn't win, he got an honorable mention, but he didn't even care

My mom refused to help me on any of those projects, including science fair projects! That was okay though, I still got good grades, and even made it to the state finals with one of my science fair projects (it was on fireworks)!

My step-father built a model of a Greek amphitheater for me in middle school. It was really nice, but I hated that he did it all. I wanted some input.

We moved a lot, so I was able to do the lame-o paper mache volcano for years as a science project. And the other years, I did the egg in vinegar trick. My parents didn't help very much, and when my dad did help, he yelled. Fun times.

Ugh, as a parent, I've constructed a native American long house, a replica of Portland's Fremont Bridge, I've done a paper mache topographical map of Portland, we built a robot (named Fauxbot) out of telephone and VCR parts, we made a state parade float (we got California, so many of my MiceChat friends helped and we were able to recycle the bridge project, painted it red and it was the Golden Gate Bridge!) and so many other things that were such a HUGE pain in the butt that I've put them out of my mind.

It's partly why I'm homeschooling Cass this year. I hate those school projects. The kids are too young to do them, they mean nothing to them, and the parents ultimately end up doing all the work. It's so frustrating!

I was truly blessed growing up...my father had a woodworking shop..so, that made things easier. For freshmen year, I had a choice...make a Juliet style hat...or a sword (Romeo and Juliet)...I think I was the only girl that made a sword. Dad cut it out, I painted it and glued rhinestoness to it.

Then, I had to make a model of the solar System...one where everything revolved around the Sun, and the other with the Earth in the middle. My Dad was really into making carousels that year, and I had the idea to make one with the solar systems...it actually revolved. My Dad cut it out, I painted it and put it together. No one believe I made it. But, the teacher loved it, and had it for years and years.

In 7th grade, I had to make a vest or pillows for Home Ec...I gave that project completely to my mom and her best friend. It was a great looking vest, I think I got a A...and I don't think I EVER touched it! haha

In January 1980, my Dad, Uncle and I built the then newly enclosed Anaheim Stadium out of sugar cubes. It was my 3rd grade project on Anaheim Monuments - we were learning the history of Anaheim in 3rd Grade....and I got an A+ on my project. Somewhere in the depths of unknown, my parents have a picture of it.

I don't remember many specific project...but I DO remember getting really mad at my parents if they didn't let me do it, and telling them that

They meant well, but I guess that's just the independent side of me!

I've done the volcano. I made a long house once, too.

My mom helped me make a Huckleberry Finn doll in 4th grade. We found a doll's head at the thrift store and fitted overalls and a shirt with stuffing after sewing it up. It was kind of like a stuffed bear. We made a straw hat for him and I made a fishing pole.

We BOTH contributed to that one and it was a lot of fun.

Dad always helped me with the volcano too.
"But every night, when it gets dark
                  and the stars come out,
I'll look up on her behalf.
I'll look up in the sky and think of you."

my mom and dad were never one to help, with anything including school work or projects. but with my girl, and my son I have had a ball. I have helped make the solar system, a volcano, an eglo out of sugar cubes, . brings me joy!

Mission San Juan Capistrano, built of sugar cubes, complete with red licorice "tile" roof. Nowadays, the kids just go buy a pre-cut kit and assemble it. Boooorrrrrring!

I don't remember any school projects, but I do remember my dad "helping" my brother with his pinewood derby car - that was funny.

My neighborhood finally did an adult derby - because the dads were way too into it!

                          Actually there were two projects.

First was my Mission in 4th grade, can't remember the name of it. My stepfather got all into building it that I just left and he finished it.

Second was in 8th grade for Science. We had to come up with a trigger "Machine" to pour a Pepsi. He mainly helped with this one too. It was fun though. It was like a match lighted and burnt through a rope which released a car to roll down the ramp then something and something until finally it poured the Pepsi in a cup.

I like this idea for a thread.

I know my dad helped me with school science projects, but I honestly can't remember what any of them were.

I do , however, remember the totally awesome Hindenberg he built for my Girl Scout Troop.

I also remember the really authentic Viking shield he made for me out of sheet metal when I was my high school's Viking mascot, especially since the Principal of the school took one look at it and took it away from me since it was authentic that it was kind of dangerous!!!

Both a crazy school project and one that both my parents helped me with ..... I think it was the fourth or fifth grade and we were all given a bowling pin that we had to use to make into a historical figure. We then had to create a display to highlight the historical relevance of our chosen subject.
Well, even then I was a bit of a Disney nut and my chosen topic was Walt himself. And what was his historically significant deed? Duh ..... Disneyland! Even then I had the beginnings of a Disney memorabilia collection and you know nothing is better for historical research than a park guide from 1967!

Don't know what became of that bowling pin but God I hope Mom and Dad still have those pictures .....

Thanks for posting that question O'nut - Had not thought of that in YEARS!

Psssshhh, my dad never helped me. I had to do it all on my own because if he did it then the grade went to him. So he said.....tough childhood I had I tell ya.
