  • problems with my dog....

ok, i took my two dogs into the groomer today and am totally dismayed, the puppy has fleas now and the oler dog, she is 14, has a big red spot on her stomach. it isn't tender to touch nor is it causeing her to limp. it isn't an open wound either, what the heck does this look like to you? i linked them out because some people might not want to see them (and they are kindof big)...not that bad but it makes me sad and mad cause i don't know where they came from...

also the file name has nothing to do with it, it loaded into my file of puppy pictures....her name is josie
we've been taking cindy to this groomer for about 5 or 6 years now and this is th first time this has happened. it's also the first time we've gotten fleas there....

And that is why I wash and groom my three dogs at home! Have you talked to the groomer about what you found?

It looks like an allergic reaction of some sort, you should call the groomer and see if they did anything differently than before. As for the fleas...the dogs shouldn't get fleas from the groomer...did you just start noticing them?

Is your dog itching at the spot?

I second migo's reccommendation to call your groomer and ask if anything is different. Barring that, maybe a call to your vet could shed some insight. If nothing else, they might be able to offer you some suggestions as to where the spot may have come from. Because that looks REALLY red, a lot more than just scratching a spot too much or anything common like that.

You know, come to think of it...it almost looks like an adverse reaction to a chemical, a burn, if you will.

ok, it looks like someone kicked your dog! nope it looks like your poor baby was hurt. I would demand to see your groomer right away and I mean it. I have seen some cruel groomers ( I walked in on one smacking a dog, I yelled and walked out. I also found one with a dog in a bath full of cold water while she was grooming another. be cvareful who does your dogs. I take mine to a woman who is awosme, and does all the grooming in front of glass windows for the world to see. she is truly awsome. but there is some creeps out there. that mark on your dog looks bruised!

Check with the groomer. They'll most likely have seen something like this before and can help you out.

                    Re: problems with my dog....

I can't really judge too well from the pictures but is the area shaved? You said this is on her stomach, so I'm assuming this is her sanitary area?

If the two above questions are yes, then it looks like a really really bad case of clipper burn. This can arise from either using the wrong blade in that area, the blade not being sharp enough and causing friction against the skin, and/or the blade being plain hot!

I could not get the second picture to load so I'm only basing this on the first picture but it looks, to be honest, bad. It's going to need the attention of the vet no matter what it actually is and what caused it. The possibility of infection is there as well, since that area of her body makes constant contact with the ground.

Get it looked at and call the groomer! And if you live in Atlanta, see me instead.

 It doesn't look like the dog was kicked either.

                          Acid maybe?

I have to agree with Trace..It looks like a SERIOUS clipper burn..and burns should NEVER happen..as the girl who trained me pounded into my head..there is NO EXCUSE to burn a dog....and i agree this needs to be seen by the vet ASAP!!! it already looks weepy from the pictures..

or it possibly could be a reaction from either a dip or a flea shampoo mixed incorrectly..but my first instinct when i saw it was clipper burn!

Any word from the groomer on what it was?

I disagree with the maltreatment thinking.

It looks like a possible cellulitis, or infection of the skin. That is not trauma, like a blunt object strike, etc. Could be an allergic reaction, heat spot turned infection due to irritation, etc.

If you really want to know the story on it, take your pet to the vet. If the groomer is F-ing up, he/she is not going to tell you!

                                Good luck.
