  • Baby Boomers....

My DH and I have been watching "Generation Boom" on VH1, I think. Anyway, got me to thinking how many changes we have seen in our lives.

Do you remember when your family got its first television? How about the first color television.

    Dishwasher.

    Microwave.

    Computer.

Do you remember girls not allowed to wear pants to school.

Women's Lib and the advancement of women in the workplace.

What everyday items of today were not around in your house growing up?

Do you wish for those days to return?

What has been the most important change for you?
    Boo!

I remember microwaves where you had to turn a dial to set the timer. I used be so envious of my friend's digital one.

I'm not a babyboomer, but my family was very poor growing up, so there's a lot of things on this list that I can remember:

      Dishwasher. 1989

      Microwave. 1991

      Computer. 1987

What everyday items of today were not around in your house growing up?
Lots of things, the above items, TV's with remotes, we didn't have cable until 1991, we had the same vacuum from before I was born until the mid-1990's, I didn't have a CD player until 1992.

Do you wish for those days to return? NO

I remember our first color tv was in 1970 but my aunt got one first, it was a little portable so we would go over to her place on saturday morning in order to watch cartoons. my parents have yet to get a dishwasher so the first one I had was after I got married. our first microwave was an amana with the dial set. my mom had that one for 20 years. my first computer was in 1984 and it was a 286 with an 80 megabyte hardrive. let's see. we didn't have remote control growing up and we didn't have cable. my aunt had cable but my dad didn't believe in it. so got cable in the mid80s after I was married. I remember record players and vinyl albums and 45s. and I remember 8track players. We had a radio that only played am channels. and that's for starters. oh and of course we didn't have cell phones and actually we only had one phone line into the house so my mom would use the egg timer in order to time me while I was on the phone with my best friend.

Do you remember when your family got its first television? How about the first color television. I wasn't born for our first TV but we got our first color in like 1969 before the moon landing.

Dishwasher. 1974 (30th anniversary gift my mom and dad just decided to get for each other)

          Microwave. 1986 JCPenney brand

Computer. Does an Atari 400 from 1983 count?

Do you remember girls not allowed to wear pants to school. yes, uniform skirts only!

Women's Lib and the advancement of women in the workplace. I remember seeing women marching on the news and thinking, what up??

What everyday items of today were not around in your house growing up? TV's larger than 19", computers, central air, energy efficent lighting....

Do you wish for those days to return? in some ways, yes I do. They were much simpler and although choices are great, it was kinda nice only having 3 network tv stations and PBS.
