I agree. I don't know a homeless or poor person who actually wanted to live that life style. Many people are born into that lifestyle and unfortunatly have no way of getting out .

PS: SIMI Valley is wonderful. I visited Toyon Bay on the Catalina Island and it was very very fun.

This sounds like a really fascinating program. It could benefit both the company and the apprentice by providing the apprentice with a free education in a marketable skill, and giving the company an enthusiastic trainee to whom they get to pay a reduced rate for a set period of time.

I'd love to see more outside-the-box thinking like this as a solution to poverty and poor educational opportunities for the lower class!!!!

    A Post for Hyperbole

Awhile back we talked about Germany and their apprentice program. I didn't forget about it and we haven't touched it again in class but I thought I would post for you what the book said about it.

"Looking at their educational system, we have found a large-scale system of apprenticechsips with industry, in which almost all students who did not go to the university after high school entered programs of mixed on-site training and further schooling. Over 500,000 German companies offer apprenticeship training programs in anything from hairdressing to the manufacture of optical equipment. High school graduates enroll in the programs for periods of 3-1/2 years. They earn a modest salary and receive one or two days a week of formal schoolwork, with the other three or four days spent in the plant. In all, close to 70% of German high school graduates are enrolled in apprenticeships."
