  • Keeping the Faith: The Great Pumpkin Experiment

Every year on the local ABC affiliate, it has become a tradition to watch the cartoon It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. The whole world mocked Linus Van Pelt as he sat patiently in the pumpkin patch, awaiting the Great Pumpkin to rise from the patch and bring toys to the good boys and girls of the world. Linus didn't see the Great Pumpkin that year, but we surmise the sincerity of his chosen patch was compromised due to the heretical unbelief of one Sally Brown. So, in order to restore Linus' good name, we have embarked on the Great Pumpkin Experiment. After careful research and scientific verification, we have located a local pumpkin patch that has the required amount of sincerity:

We plan to arrive at the patch each night just after sundown, and await the arrival of the Great Pumpkin. To prevent the sincerity of our patch from being compromised, the exact location of the patch will remain secret until noon on November 1, 2006. Extensive video and photographic equipment has been procured to monitor the site. The evidence of the Great Pumpkin's visit will be presented here on November 1, 2006, as proof to the unbelieving world that He is real. Daily notes up until the big night will be posted here as well.Linus will be vindicated.

Aw,, if you'd been at the meet Sunday, you woulda seen the great pumpkin
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Daily notes for October 5, 2006

Equipment setup complete. Temperature at nightfall 49 deg F. Partly cloudy, some rain clouds in distand SSW. Some curious bistanders out walking their dog gave us a curious glance. Gave them a menacing "mind your own business" glance in return. Hee hee. No Pumpkin sightings today. I remain optimistic.

Go for it! However, remember what the prophet said

"Never jump into a pile of leaves with a wet sucker. "
