Kelly, when you get settled, why don't you plan a MiceChat weekend in Vegas. We could plan a couple of shows to go see and a couple of interesting dining adventures. We have so many people in the Vegas area or who would be willing to drive, that I bet we could really get together a great group.

We might also be able to get some discount room rates if enough people are willing to go. Late November/Early December would work or any time in February.

Can you tell that I am looking for an excuse to go to Vegas? "But honey, I have to go to Vegas for MiceChat."

that is such a great idea dusty.. why didnt I think about that.. it would be great to have a vegas mice chat meet.. there are alot of shows I would love to see.. and this way I would have to see some.. we could have a great time together.. i am sure people would drive out ehre for it.. plus the other mice chatters who live here.. great idea

We didn't gamble a bit while we were there, and still managed to barely fit in everything we wanted to do

- Simply looking through the lobbies/gamning area of the hotels can take the better part of a day. I especially love the New York, New York's gaming area
- Trip out to the Grand Canyon by bus/plane/helicopter. We did the latter. It was expensive, but worth every penny
- Stratosphere - a must for thrill-ride junkies
- Star Trek Experience @ Las Vegas Hilton
- Yard Long Margheritas from Jimmy Buffet's (or anywhere else for that matter)
- Any of the Cirque du Soleil shows (we saw Mystere and loved it)

The game place on the strip is fun. Lots of arcade stuff. (I forget the exact name but it's near the giant Coke bottle.) They've got a really good rock climbing wall.

GameWorks, down by the MGM. I've always wanted to try that rock wall but with a bad wrist and ankle, I don't think so .

There's also a marshmallow factory tour I've alway wanted to take.

now that we live here i should go.. my 5 year old wants to do the rock climb thing, I dont think so.. she wouldnt make it up 1 i think.. (of course neither would I)

i was thinking about that at the adventure dome.. i wonder if they have a year round pass.... I want to go on the manhatten so badly (so do the girls) but they are too little i think

Ah, I completely overlooked the 'families' aspect. I guess it is hard to be completely family friendly in Vegas, with porn vending machines on the streets; people spruiking 'escorts' and 'massages' and regularly drunk merry-makers swanning along the street with Yard-Long Margaritas. Still, there is plenty to do if you think you can avoid exposing the kids to that (which is largely a night-time element).

Well, Mystere is family friendly. The only one that isn't is New York, New York's Zumanity. However, they are all quite pricey, so probably not 'family friendly' in that respect.

Then I totally second Coca Cola and M & Ms, along with some of the free shows such as:

- Pirate show at Treasure Island
- Water show at Bellaggio
- Lion enclosure at the MGM Grand
- Volcano at the Mirage
- Shark reef at the Mandalay Bay (bit expensive though)
- IMAX theatre at the Luxor (also their collection of Egyptian stuff is fun)

One people often overlook is the animal enclosures at the Flamingo hotel. Apart from the titular birds being there, they also have penguins, fish and other wildlife. The gardens are quite nice too, but the interior of the hotel just screams bad taste. It is almost worth it for the kitsch value.

Finally, it is a fair hike down the strip to Circus Circus, but they have the Adventuredome Theme Park. For $22.95 for an all-day pass, they have rollercoasters, VR, midway games, Spongebob Squarepants and more. HEAPS to do. Check it out!

thanks we have done the adventure dome when we visited vegas now that we are here i am wondering if they have a year pass.. i will look into that.. i forgot about the treasure island show, and the bellagio water show.. thanks for reminding me

Hi kids - wow, my first post on MiceChat after lurking for months!

I had to respond to this one since I just spent four days in Las Vegas last week.

Yes to the Dam Tour. Far more interesting than you might think, and be sure to get a close look at those two winged statues on the Nevada side. It's actually a star map that shows exactly where the moon and stars were positioned on the night the Dam was dedicated in 1936. Fascinating!

Yes to the *Star Trek* experience, as long as your kids are old enough that it doesn't scare them. And please tell me I'm not the only one who was embarrasingly moved by being "beamed up" onto the *Enterprise*.

And oh, by all means start saving your $$$ right now and go see KA, the new Cirque du Soleil show at the MGM. You have NEVER seen anything like this! It's expensive, but absolutely fantastic. We are already making plans to go back just to see it again.

Everyone is suggesting great things to do in Vegas. But, really, you will find (if you haven't already) that most locals don't spend as much time on the strip as tourists. It really is a family friendly town, and not everything costs an arm and a leg!
I've been thinking about what else the kids and I do during the winter. Summer--I can think of lots, but with school and all, we don't do so much in the winter, plus, lots of the kid friendly stuff is only in the summer.
The one big thing we do a lot.....go to Disneyland!
What kinds of things did you do with the s in CA? I'll keep thinking, and let you know......

when we were in ca we went to the zoo, the beach., DL of course, knotts, universal studios sea world, aquarioum of the pacific.. walks in the park

we have been doing the trouist thing on weekends the STRIP only because the girls and i love walking asround the stores
