Thanks. Now comes the fun part of planning the wedding. Her folks have given us a nice budget to play with. We are looking into the gardens that the U Of M run.

well folks I did it. I asked her. we went for a walk around the lake where we first meet. the sun was going down. we walked off to this little side garden. as we sat there she was admiring the flowers. I pulled the ring out of my pocket. I looked at her and started to ask her. she got real giddy and asked me is this happing now. I said yup and asked her to marry me. of course she said yes. it was a total surprise. she thought it was going to be the scavenger hunt. thanks for all the advise.

Well I final got the chance to sit down woth my girlfriends father and ask his permission to marry his daughter. I know that's corny and old fashion but thats me.:yea:

What you did is NOT corny and NOT old-fashioned. It is respectable and honorable. Therefore, you are NOT corny or old-fashioned. By the way, I asked my wife's Dad for his permission to marry his daughter and he was overjoyed that I asked him and said that he and her Mom were thrilled and gave it 100% support!

He hit the nail on the head. You need to ensure that your proposal matches her. I took my fiancé to a nice dinner overlooking the ocean. After some great food and drinks, we took a gondola ride in the harbor just ten feet away. I purposed on the gondola. Great memories but it matched her personality and her being. Just make sure its about her.
    GOOD LUCK!

So, the moral of the story is do something she will like, and enjoy. It doesn't have to be some crazy, convoluted event. There is A LOT that can go wrong with a scavenger hunt. Keep it simple, it's about your love, not about having a good story to tell.

    Good luck.
OMG ouch! I'm sorry, but those kind of "romantic" gestures are very few. So unless I KNEW that the man wasn't for me...or knew of some reason not to marry him, I would not have said no, even if I didn't like sports or was embarrassed. But as it is, I LOVE baseball..so the scenario above would just send me over the EDGE!

I was trying to avoid posting in this thread as I don't want to look like I'm giving Tool hints, so it's cute, what you wrote!

Seconded (thirded?) on the "do what SHE would like"... every girl has a story of some "dream" date she went on that was actually the guy's dream, not hers! She probably has at least a few ideas in her head of stories she's heard or things she thought were romantic in others' proposals. If you're friends with her best friend, you might want to ask her for tips, SHE would know!

I love to do it at Disneyland but as we live in Minnesota that's not an option. I did ask her if she had any fantasies to how she would like to be asked and she said anything but in a restaurant. I hinted at the hunt and she seemed to like that idea. I pick up the ring on Wednesday and will do it within the week. I will post on here how it went.

Re: Need Help with Romantic plans

I think it is going to differ between every relationship. My girlfriend and I kind of have this agreement that we'll get hitched next time we are in Las Vegas, so we don't need to do the whole engagement thing.

However, I'm an old softy at heart and I do like a nice romantic story. The best advice I could give has already been given: do something that would show HER a good time - that you know she will love - and it makes it all the sweeter.

For the record: I think a scavenger hunt is wonderfully corny, and if I did swing that way (and wasn't taken), I'd marry you. There are a LOT of 'ifs' in there though...

Now I need help on how to propose to her. I am a romantic at heart and would like to do something speical. I have thought about doing a scavenger hunt and at the end of all the clues I would be waiting to ask her.

What do you think? Any ideas? Suggestions?
Where was your first date? Or a particular place special to the both of you?
Be sure to bring a camera, and have someone take pics of the new happy couple!
