we have thankgsiving the same as you americans.. i am really not sure why ours is in october though.... cant remmeber it has been a long time ago when i went to school (if i learned it there).. it has to do with the pilgrims, as well..

we do the same things as american thanksgiving.. gather with friends and family, eat turkey, etc..

I thought Thanksgiving was about when Columbus discovered America and ate with the native americans though, so why do Canadians celebrate that?

                            Here you go:

"In Canada Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October. Unlike the American tradition of remembering Pilgrims and settling in the New World, Canadians give thanks for a successful harvest. The harvest season falls earlier in Canada compared to the United States due to the simple fact that Canada is further north."

Well there ya go. I didn't even know that.
Canadian Thanksgiving isn't nearly as highly regarded as American Thanksgiving is in America. Here it's a nice three day weekend, usually spent with friends and some family that live nearby. You don't really see that many cross country trips and huge family gatherings.

Not huge? It's a major Football day! Guaranteed CFL double headder, Monday Night Football, throw in a couple of NHL games, and the occasional Baseball playoff (why I don't know). It's almost as good as Labour Day! Folks in Calgary and Toronto know what I mean.

                                        Best ever Thanksgiving joke.

"Father calls his son at work two days before Thanksgiving. "John, I'm calling to tell you that your mother and I age getting a divorce."
                                        "What?"
"A divorce. After 42 years of marriage, I can't take it anymore. I'm leaving her tomorrow. Call your sister and tell her."
John calls his sister across the country. "Mary, Dad just called. He's leaving Mom. Tomorrow!"
"WHAT? I DON'T THINK SO! You reserve the first flights out. I'm calling Dad."
Mary calls her father. "Dad? John just called me. Don't you dare do a thing! We'll be there in the morning. Got it?!"
"Oh, okay dear. If you think it will make any difference"
                                        Father hangs up.
"Martha! The kids are coming home for Thanksgiving! And they're paying for the flights!"
