  • How Many of You Are Really IRISH?

We all celebrate St. Patrick's Day - even in the simplest way, and it's by wearing GREEN. But how many of you/us truly have IRISH in our blood?

Personally, I do not. The closest thing I have is ENGLISH in my blood - but my wife is of IRISH descent.

    How about you?

That works. My wife is half - from her biological father's side of the family. So, that makes my son a quarter Irish descent.

        A tiny, tiny bit irish.
Press today is so concerned with cool vs. not cool that they're starting to forget good vs. bad. I'm not sure I'll ever be "cool", but I will always tirelessly strive to be "great". - Josh Groban

My mother is full Irish blood. So I'm half.

And now I going to visit with her and eat corned beef---and try not to gag. She doesn't like bangers and mash, so I'm kinda stuck.

          Oy.

          Slainte!
          Peace!

I'm a quarter Irish AND St. Patrick is my patron saint. I carry a St. Patrick saint card with me at all times with a relic (A piece of cloth that was touched to his shrine).

Re: How Many of You Are Really IRISH?

My mother's mother was part Irish. So I guess that makes me a tiny bit Irish and my kids even tinier (is that even a word?). But the funny thing is, my seven year old loves this day. The leprechauns visited the house last night. The boys set a trap for them but they got away. There is currently a mess of toilet paper everywhere (from the trap). No gold, but they did leave clovers, necklaces, baked goodies, Disney St. Pat's pins and Old Navy St. Pat's t-shirts. We hope to go out today and find some restaurant that is having a G rated party.

Somewhere way back on my mother's side there's "Scotch-Irish" ancestry, as was told to me.

I had a cousin trace the family tree on my fathers side back to my great great great grandfather I think it was, Patrick McGee who was born in Dublin in the 1800's. I also have an Irish connection on my mothers side, but haven't had anyone do an actual trace of that line yet.

Me LOVES Corned Beef and Cabbage. My mother makes it any time of the year. I even get it for lunch sometimes from a deli across the street from my office.

I'm not, not even remotely close (100% Japanese). But my DH is quarter Irish.

Sounds like me! I have NO idea why my mom would make corned beef and cabbage every year for St. Paddy's Day, but she did! And I always looked forward to it.
                      She did it!

Re: How Many of You Are Really IRISH?

I used to be somewhere around one fifth Irish. Also about one fifth Scotch, and somewhere around the same Kentuckey.

Just kidding, I am a small percentage Irish, probably no where near one fifth though.

You bet your shamrocks I'm Irish! Not 100% but somewhere between 25%-50%. I've always related more to my Irish heritage and with my full name being Irish it's just easier to say I'm Irish.
