  • Things that make you foam at the mouth

Well, Sunday afternoon, on the 18th, I was loading the SUV for a run to the dump.

The dog from across the street and down a house comes up the driveway. I've seen this dog before, it pretty much roamed the neighborhood, and never had a collar or a license. It was an australian sheepdog/border collie, fairly innocuous. It plays with the local kids all the time.

I do what any reasonable person would do--I put my hand down for the dog to sniff. After all, I'm an animal lover.

The dog instantly bites the hand, breaking the skin. I then walk over to the owner's house.

As I'm walking up the owner's driveway, the dog leaps and lunges for the back of my thigh, trying to take me down. Fortunately, due to the heavy jeans I had on and the fact that I was moving away from the dog pretty fast, he didn't suceed.

The owner assures me the dog is current on all his shots.

Next day. I have to see my doctor for a tetanus shot, which means a police report has to be filed. The county animal control people order the owner to produce the dog for quarantine and examination.

Instead the owner gives the dog away to someone else, out-of-county.

By the time animal control figures this fact out, over a week has gone by. They visit the new owner, who informs them that the dog has been shot almost immediately.

They exhume the body for analysis, but it is too badly decomposed to tell if it was rabid or not. In addition, an examination of the documents reveals that the dog was not currently vaccinated for rabies.

So Friday I begin rabies shots.

    Isn't that grand?

Sorry this had to happen.......People and their pets can sometimes be......(without cussing), just plain stupid!

Your neighbor sounds like a real jerk! If he had just cooperated you wouldn't being going through this!

I hope it is as quick and painless as possible.

              Scary, Wotan.
I feel your pain on irresponsible owners who don't have their dog on a leash. So many farm dogs have taken out my riding partners on rides out in the country.

Then when we go to file a complaint... the animal disappears.
Hope the treatments go well, sorry you have to deal with this.

And that is why I stay away from dogs

Can you do ANYTHINg - have them pay your medical bills or anything? It certainly sounds suspicious that he gave the dog away then the new owner shot him dead.

                  I hope you recover well

And how I picked you up and everything changed
                  It was pain
                  Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Oh man that sucks! Bad owner for not having the pooch updated on its shots. People should have to take a test to be allowed to own a pet (or breed).

Yikes. What a bummer that your neighbor is an irresponsible pet owner. He/she should be paying all of your medical bills and any missed time off from work.

I think the person who was in possession of the dog at the time it attacked you should have to go through the rabies shots just like you have to. I thnk thats only fair... he was unresponsible, thinks that getting rid of the dog gets rid of HIS problem... well, we an fix that.

Yikes! I thought this was just going to be a rant thread about your neighbor's dog, so I'm shocked to see the whole story! I hope everything turns out okay for you. You might consider suing for medical reimbursement, but I don't know if it would be worth the hassle, since the guy is obviously such a jerk.

That's not the only people should take a test for.

But back OT, I'm sorry to hear you had such a horrible experience ... and are about to experience even more horribleness. With everything that happened I'm sure you could get your neighbor to pay for some of the expenses related to this. I'm guessing that by the way your neighbor reacted this isn't the first time this happened.
