  • Anyone taken the Warner brothers and/or universal VIP tour?

I'm talking about the one that's like 150 bucks. Can anyone tell me what they are both like? I can either have 3 days disneyland and 1 day universal for the tour and 1 day warner brothers for the tour...But if it isn't worth it I'll just do the better one and have 4 days in DL. What kinda stuff happens on these tours? Remember, I'm NOT talking about the general tour. I'm talking about the big, one time a day, expensive tour.

I know alot of people on Gilmore Girl boards who have taken it and there was a website with full details about the tour, i'll see if i can find it.

    Here's one: http://www2.warnerbros.com/vipstudiotour/

The other I still need to find, which was done by a tour guru and GG fan.

Well, the regular WB tour is very much worth the price. So I'd think any mega expensive WB tour would be even more worth it!

Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
            It was pain

I did the regular one, It's like $60??? not the VIP one. I've done the regular one a few times. You go the GG outside set - it's the town square w/the gazebo (last summer I went w/2 GG fans - they geeked out at the gazebo. It was so cute!) You walk around there and around other famous houses. We went on a holiday so no filming but we walked around where they were filming the Rent movie. And we went into the props warehouse and on the set of TV show - oh and what used to be the Friends coffeehouse (i sat on the couch!). The tour ends in the little museum - very cool and floor 2 is Harry Potter. (you can even be sorted by the sorting hat)

But... I don't know what makes the VIP tour worth the extra $$ but I'd guess it really is worth it.

You pass by the filming lot on any of the WB studio tours, and if they aren't filming in the square, then you can walk around and take pics of the place. Alot of people on the GG boards go to find out spoilers from the tour guides.

Yeah, we've been on the VIP Tour at both places (numerous times at USH).

They each have their own pluses.

I did an in-depth trip report w/pics after our last VIP experience in December at USH. Try doing a search.

Our WB one was great too. We went into a "hot" set and another sound stage in which we found a used script laying on the floor. Our guide gave it to us! Cool keepsake.

Try doing a search. You'll find plenty of info.

Also, check out the "non-Disney" threads for more info on both Parks.

                            Enjoy!

Re: Anyone taken the Warner brothers and/or universal VIP tour?

I've done the VIP at Universal several years ago. You basically
take the same tour route as the regular tram, only they take you
via a trolley. Since the VIP tour is very limited to the number ob
people in each group, (mine was among the smallest, only 5 people
total). The tour guide will give you the same basic info. But you
can ask any questions, anywhere along the tour.

Since it does follow the same route as the tram, (king kong, earthquake,
jaws, etc) it certainly is a much more personal experience. Of course,
since the route is subject to change, due to filming, certain areas in the
backlot may be left out of the normal tour. However, since it is a more
personal experience, the tour guide told us if we wanted to stop anywhere
along the way, he would do so, a couple of times, so we could see the
                              sets up close.

Our group stopped at the infamous courthouse, and actually went up the
steps and through the front door! Of course the back side showed it all
to be just a facade ! Not a building at all. We also stopped in the area
where the Psycho House is. At that time Jurassic Park 2 had just been
filmed and there were extensive set in that whole area (dinosaur
skeletons, set of "destructed" buildings from the movie) It was a lot
of fun to walk around those areas that the tram normally drives right
                              by.

We did go on Back the Future as a Group. But that was the only
attraction. When we finished the tour, our wristbands were good
for the reserved seating sections of any of the shows, and good for
front of the line passes for all the attractions (I rode the Jurassic
Park ride several times in a row )

Overall it was worth doing once, not so sure it would really be
something I would want to do twice.

I also have taken the Tour at Warner Bros. Definitely something
worthwhile seeing!!! The tour is very much personal too. BUT
don't expect anything like Earthquake or Jaws. This is a real working
Studio, and UNLIKE Universal, you could very likely see some filming
going on, whether it be inside one of the studios used for sitcoms, and
such, to running into outdoor filming going on. I went on this tour at
two different time. Once, they were doing filming of the Superman
tv series outside on one of the street set, a we walked through an
indoor set of some short lived sit com, but all the actors and actresses
were there in rehersal. We also walked through some of the indoor
sets from the Superman tv series. Another time, We were walking in
one the the outdoor street set, and they blowing fake snow all over the
front of one of the houses, and all the bushes and trees in the area
(this was on a 70 plus degree day) shortly after, nearly the entire
cast of "Sisters" were in the porch area of the house - all dressed in cold
winter outfits. Our Golf cart of people also happen to drive by Drew
Carey, and the Driver stopped and talked to Drew. He was very friendly
to the whole group of us. We were also invited to watch a tapping of
his show as part of the studio audience , later that evening.
(unfortunately I already had previous plans for that same night)

So, You just NEVER know what kind of surprises might occur on the WB
tour. I was just on the 3 or 4 hour tour, but I understand a longer
                              version has been made available.

EDIT: Just to ADD, If you want to go on the WB tour, DEFINATELY
CALL to make reservations as soon as you can! I don't think the
tour operates all the time, and they are limited to a certain number
                              of people.
