  • American Idol's Simon Rolls Eyes at V-Tech Mention

So tonight one of the contestants on Idol dedicated his performance to all the students, faculty and family in Virginia as they cope with this tragedy. The camera caught Simon TOTALLY roll his eyes and look disgusted. (I put this here, not entertainment, since we are discussing other aspects to the incident here)

I think that is REALLY poor form, and uncalled for. They are already spinning it because people are pissed.

    What do you guys think?

    It was last night, actually.
And IMO, Simon was more rolling his eyes because the contestant threw that in there instead of responding to the criticism that he'd just given the contestant (Chris). It was obvious Chris' words were heartfelt, it was just poor timing. I don't think Simon looked any more disgusted than usual.

They threw in a poorly timed response and apology during Simon's review of another contestant. I thought that was stupid too. (Though I haven't actually seen that part)

Simon (Fuller, I believe, not Cowell) said that Cowell wasn't even paying attn and didn't hear what Chris was saying.

Did you watch it before you posted? (Just wondering, not accusing!)
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

It's been explained as bad camera work timing. He rolled his eyes toward Paula in response to Chris's comment about singing nasally on purpose. They just happened to cut back to him as the comment was being made.

      No controversy, just a misunderstanding.

It wasn't me, it was Lisa!

I don't think it was about the VT thing and if it was it was more of the guy trying to get more votes by saying it...IMO.

They played back the additional feed as the mics were on and you could tell that Simon was so incredulous that Chris would say that "Nasal is a form of singing" that he completely missed the comments about Virginia Tech. That, and Ryan Seacrest was talking over Chris making it hard for anyone to really hear what he was saying. I honestly think the eye roll was directed at Chris' poor attempt to justify his annoyingly nasal voice.

          I mean....we're talkin REALLY nasal.

Oh wait. I need to add this...

          Get it? Heh heh.....

          *crickets*

          :botox:

          Tough crowd tonight.....

Must be a time zone thing, it's still night where I am.

I did watch it prior to posting, that is how I knew that it happened.

It could definitely be a case of bad timing, or camera cuts, and bad editing.

Could be, and if it wasn't originally the case, they are sure as hell going to say that now.

It originally aired Tuesday night, that's what I meant. I guess it could still be Tuesday where you are, I don't know much about time zones!

It's been talked about all day (Wednesday) so I wasn't sure if you'd heard about it or had actually seen it, that's all

I still think it was just Simon's reaction to Chris' butting in (or saying he meant to be nasally) and a bad time to cut to a diffrent camera.

OMG, NNL, you are totally right, sorry!!! I am in Kentucky for work, and my days and times are ALL screwed up. Sorry about that.

It sounds like you're right, he was rolling his eyes about the craptastic singing, which was pretty bad. I'm going to bed now, have a great night MC.

I don't have the $13 right now. Can I pay you $6.50 now, and $6.50 later?

Re: American Idol's Simon Rolls Eyes at V-Tech Mention

I saw that on Drudge this morning. I don't watch Idol, or care in any way, so I'm not judging or defending Simon, I just though it was a weird thing to make the news.

                        Here's an article:
                        http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...041801415.html

The Fox show went into damage control Wednesday, with Cowell _ known for his acerbic comments _ and a series producer denying that he had heard what Richardson said.

Instead, he was talking to Abdul about Richardson's contention that he deliberately sang "Mayberry" in a nasal tone, Cowell told "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest on Seacrest's radio show Wednesday.

"I was saying to Paula, `What does he mean, he sang nasally on purpose? I didn't understand what he was saying.' So I hadn't even heard what he did. Then my eye rolled, given what I was saying to Paula," Cowell told Seacrest.

"I've never heard so much rubbish," added Cowell, a British record company executive.

On Wednesday night's show, Cowell stood firm.

"I didn't hear what Chris was saying," he said. "I may not be the nicest person in the world, but I would never, ever, ever disrespect those families or those victims. And I felt it was important to set the record straight."

BFD...I'm sick of people overreacting about things in the media.

Simon's an ***hole. EVERYONE knows that. Don't watch the damn show if he pisses you off that much.
                          What an idiot....

Yeah, I do that Twitter thing.

This is ridiculous. Simon wasn't rolling his eyes at the comment.

Anyway, I thought it was completley inappropriate for that guy to make a comment at all! I mean, seriously. It's freaking American Idol. Political convictions have no place on the show. It was totally out of line. He should have showed his support during a press conference or something, when the camera's WEREN'T rolling.

The way that kid did it, it totally looked like he was trying to get votes.
