I've been looking for this answer all mornig, but haven't found a good picture or amswer.

yesterday my kids were playing in the front yard when I here them scream and run, my 4 yo boy was yelling, "Snake, snake"

    I asked "where, I don't see it."

The I looked down and it was right underneath me. It was small, a baby I think. About 6 inches, Dark grey with a redish Orange stripe around it's neck, as well as a belly the same color.

Would anyone know what type of snake this would be, my wife yelled at me for not killing it, but I just released it into the bushes by our house.

Migo is right, it sounds like a Google snake.

      Oh wait....

Could it have been a garter snake? I know we have those all over in SoCal.

It sounds as if it could be a San Bernadino ring-necked snake--does it look anything like the ones at

                Re: Snakes

Kind of sounds like something we have here in Florida. Fairly small (12", slim like a pencil). Here's a link:
                http://www.floridaconservation.org/V...html#ringnecks

I know its California vs. Florida but could be the same family.

we were playing golf in Nevada on Saturday and my buddy accidently ran over a big snake on the cart path. Must have been over 3 feet long.
