I graduated in 1992. The songs that were "hits" back there were a bunch of crap.

            Wow.......
Well, if I go back to the 1970's, I remember great songs like:

Crocodile Rock, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting- Elton John

Saturday in the Park - Chicago

            Anything by the Doobie Brothers

            My Life - Billy Joel
            Rock Lobster - the B-52's

Moving forward (or backward) into the 1980's:

Video Killed the Radio Star - The Buggles
Walkin' in L.A. - Missing Persons
            Stepping Out - Joe Jackson
            Material Girl, Borderline - Madonna
Find a Way - Amy Grant
Who Can It Be Now?- Men At Work
Kiss on My List - Hall & Oates
Let's Dance, Modern Love - David Bowie
            Roam - the B-52's
            Escapade - Janet Jackson

I turned 18 in 1989 - so I guess this wraps up my years as a 'youth'.

Re: Songs that send you back to your youth

Well, since the "youth" most everyone is talking about I am currently living (), I'll talk about my childhood.

And there's just one song that sums up my childhood. It sums it up so well, it's what rings when I call my parents.

              Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun.

It played all the time in the NICU when I was born so it's always kind of been the one song my parents loved to play as I was growing up.

But then, of course, who can forget Billie Jean? *sigh*
"But every night, when it gets dark
              and the stars come out,
I'll look up on her behalf.
I'll look up in the sky and think of you."

                  I hated most 90's music. I'm a child of the 80's!

My guy graduated in 1979 and he had what was pretty much the end of disco but he had some good ones...

Chic (LOVE them... Nile Rodgers is da man!)
                  Donna Summer
                  Sister Sledge
                  "classic" Michael Jackson
                  The Cars
Doobie Brothers (we both love them)

The music that takes me back the most is Alanis Morrisette's Jagged Little Pill. If I hear any song on that album I immediately feel like I am 17 again. I love it for that reason.

I just checked Billboard and I COMPLETELY disagree with the stuff they put. Elton John in 1997?? I like Elton, but come on. Other stuff was from Puff Daddy, Mariah Carey and Spice Girls- :yuck: Not my thing.

I also graduated in 91 and those are exactly the songs that take me back to high school!

Mony Mony, Love Bites, and Welcome to the Jungle were our school's dance favorites! I swear we just used the same mix tape at every dance. Then later it was Salt n Pepa's Push It. Over and over again.

Forever Young was our theme for every dance, prom, graduation the entire time I was in high school. That Alphaville song was our anthem--we all knew how to play it on our keyboards (very 80's!), and it was played over and over again at parties, and then at funerals. We had 6+ kids die in car accidents when I was in high school....so that song is so personal to me. Years later, the guy who taught us how to play it, died of AIDS and they played it at his funeral. Oh! That took me back.

Stinker - did you also have Wild Wild West by the Escape Club - and the DJ turned down the radio on the word sex? Growing up in Utah - that was our deal - gimme gimme safe (dead silence - except for 500 kids yelling it out)
