  • my home town is a disaster

friday night they had massive storms and flooding. More than 100 thousand homes have been without power since then, and aren't expected to be fixed until later this week.
I don't live there any more, but my brother and sister and all my friends live there, and I lived there for 38 years (I'm 42)
coal ship has run aground on one of the major surfing beaches, and they may not be able to move it.
We don't normally get winter storms, we have most of that in summer, and winter is usually when we have the nice weather. this is so unusual, and was so unexpected. It's the worst flooding in the area in over 40 years!!

    here's a video

    Here's some pics

this is about two miles from where I lived my whole life!

    the grounded ship

This is where I lived my whole life!!

this is the same view the next morning

My home was within walking distance of these stores. Just on the bend, where the green awning is, is where my drs office is!

I know it says the 1/1/04, but they must not have reset the date on the camera

luckily Newcastle is on the coast, so the flood waters receded quite quickly

Giant hugs to Tassie and the family still living in the area. I certainly hope they can get the huge tanker ship off the coast before it starts pouring all of its fuel out.

I love my awesome crazy wonderful friends!!

Where this happened is about 10 hours drive from me, and about two hours north from Sydney, in Newcastle. The band Silver Chair are from here, as well as Jennifer Hwkins who was Miss Universe a few years back
Their water hasn't been any where near as bad as here.... BUT we have had so much rain lately, it's been great! AND it's COLD!!!! It hasn't been above 60F in a couple of weeks!! Maybe we will be having a cold winter for a change.

A family of 5 was killed when the road collapsed under them
