  • The San Joaquin Valley Thread

After going off discussion for a bit in another thread it was decided to make a thread where some of us can talk about, Fresno, Madera, Hanford, Bakersfield etc.

If you want to see the cities in the Valley go the bottom of the page here:

      BAKERSFIELD

That was the sign that welcomed you to Bakersfield that I grew up seeing as we drove from LA to my uncles in Fresno when we'd visit. Many memories of driving up the Valley to Fresno.

Through countless farms. Eating breakfast at "J's" Coffee Shop in Bakersfield. Looking out for some restaurant I think near Selma that had part of a biplane sticking out the top of it (not sure if it's there anymore but I LOVED that thing). Seeing these big gigantic red and white radar poles all along the freeway, never sure if they were t.v. towers, or some military thing. Tule fog. The Old Road (before the freeway was built).

      Yep, many memories.

I spent my boyhood years in Visalia. Went to Royal Oaks school and my mom had diverse jobs such as branch manager at Grand Auto Hanford and Commercial Artist for the Visalia Times Delta and Fresno Bee.

Yep, I grew up keeping an eye out for that place too!

            Bruce's Restaurant.

And who can forget all of those Orange Stands along the 99. I think there is one left.

And the Winchester Mystery House billboard. I would get the creeps just looking at it as we passed it at 65 mph.

            Summertime Hanford kid.

Oh you are bringing back the memories. I used to love getting the fresh squeezed orange juice on the road side. Nothing beats getting up in the morning and seeing the sun rise over the Sierra Nevadas.

                        Water - Wealth - Contentment - Health

That's the slogan on the downtown Modesto arch.
Of course, we have Scott Peterson as our claim to fame - and the Gallo family - and George Lucas - and it's only 92 degrees right now, at 8:20 PM

Re: The San Joaquin Valley Thread

actually I had a couple of bankruptcy hearings in Fresno.

So to be completely accurate I drove from Stockton to Turlock last night to spend night with sister and her family, then Turlock to Fresno this morning, then back to Turlock for lunch with a super cute nephew, then home again.

But it is a loooooooooooooong drive.

I lived in Stockton for 15 years, my sister and nephew, my MIL and some very good friends still live there. I've been in Bakersfield for just over 2 years now.
