I was is South Lake Tahoe the last few days and took some time to go see the damage caused by the Angora Fire. We got a good look from the ridge road to Angora Lakes above Fallen Leaf Lake.

    Looking down towards hwy 50.

As you can see the fire did not reach over the ridge and down towards Fallen Leaf Lake.

Having gone up this road to Angora Lakes all my life, I was speechless looking at the devestation. Over 300 homes destroyed.
You could feel the outpouring of support in this community. Signs were posted all over town and down hwy 50 thanking the fire crews.
Plus reminders to donate to Locals for Locals helping residents affected by the fire.

Now onto a couple pics of the real beauty in Lake Tahoe: Emerald Bay

Looking over to South Shore and the slopes of Heavenly.

Thanks for the pics. As bleak as these look with all of the fire damage, its refreshing to know that if they can survive the rainy season and risk of mudslides, the regrowth of this area in a few years will be simply agazing!

    A little piece of heaven

ahhh home... my mom had to be evacuated during this fire , although her house survived thankfully , the smoke hung down in the valley for days , it was the weirdest atmosphere down here , it looked cloudy and foggy , but it was like 90 and smoky... really bizzare

in fact you can almost see my old house in this picture...

That's so sad! I spent most of my summers growing up in Tahoe and I know exactly where those pictures are taken. It looks awful.

              Welcome back:ghug:

Love the pic of Emerald Bay.

Could you still smell the ash residue from the fire?

Beautiful! You took some amazing photos!

My dad was there just after the fire for a wedding and he said from the other side of the lake, you couldn't smell anything and you'd never even know there was a major fire. Now, that's a big lake.

I couldn't smell a thing. Fire was in late June.

Got home and learned another 5 homes were destroyed in a fire outside Tahoe City on Sunday.
