What's your name again???

Anyone else have a problem remembering names? Either when you first meet them or you never really knew their name but you see them all the time.
This happens to me a lot. I try my best but I guess I need to pay more attention.
Take for instance my barber. I've been going to him for years now and I don't even know his name. It's always, "What's up man, how you been?"
I think his name is Enrique but I only think that because I overheard it one day. That's terrible.

I can remember everything else but not names. Sad.
Who am I again?

I'm terrible with names, so is my daughter. I need to be introduced to someone a minimum of 8 times before I get it right. That's why I just call everybody dude.

I have the same problem unfortunately, it's especially hard at a Mice Chat meet, because someone will say their MC Name, then their real name and I forget both or only remember the one.

Highly embarassing.

So I tried a method of association to try and remember someone's name.

Like if the person's name is is Sandra, I think of something like Sandra Dee, in my head, not to their face of course. It really helps!

I could never figure that one out. I've heard it referenced before.

If I was able to remember "Sandra Dee" (as in your example), I should just be able to remember the persons actual name.



If I do forget a persons name (and I do), I just bite the bullet up front and apologize and reintroduce my name to them and ask them for theirs.

Two seconds of embarrassment beats the grief of me worrying about it the whole time that I am talking with the person. And I do worry about it...

Hey, we've all been there (and we're human), so why not be honest about it???

See... I wish I had that problem. I have this photographic memory with names and faces. I can recognize someone from junior high and say not only their name but what classes we had together or where we had met. I always am like "hey aren't you so and so?" everywhere I go. Even people I know through people I am like "you're so and so's co-worker from their old job, aren't you?" It's kinda' annoying.

I'm terrible with names too. Its one of the reasons I'm not a teacher. I do feel bad and am sometimes successful with association tricks. The association tricks help when I can't remember if their name is x or y; as in I have it narrowed down to 2 names. That's when I come up with an association.

Forget names, just give them numbers or call them all Buddy.

I'm terrible with names too. Its one of the reasons I'm not a teacher. I do feel bad and am sometimes successful with association tricks. The association tricks help when I can't remember if their name is x or y; as in I have it narrowed down to 2 names. That's when I come up with an association.

When I go to shake someones hand, I repeat their name out loud once and then 1,371,986 times in my head and I still forget.

I'm more or less like this. I don't have the proverbial elephant's memory - I do slip up once in a while - but details tend to lodge in my head. DH, on the other hand, has a very hard time with names and trivial details.

I don't understand how my method used makes me less honest with the person? If I don't remember I just simply ask their name and apologize and explain that I'm just horrible with names. I never have a problem admitting that.

As far as the word association, it's taking something that your familiar with and associating it with the person themselves. I am a big Grease fan so Sandra Dee is something that I would remember, even more so than just Sandra.

I'm terrible with names when I first meet someone...they can tell me their name, and 2 seconds later I forget it :blink:

I hate running into someone, I know I know them, they know me, we talk for a moment or two, say our goodbyes and my husband will say "who was that" usualy my response is "I have no idea, I just know I know them from somewhere" :blush:

My uncle has a photographic memory, which he uses for evil :devil:, but our memories have been compared. I can remember people's houses from when I was one or two years old (which with infantile anemisia I shouldn't be able to.), and if I close my eyes right now I can like picture myself in the house. I can remember everything, which I've been told is creepy that I remember such weird details and names.

Problem I have with names is pronouncing them. I swear... I can spell the names, but pronoucing them is totally hard and I stumble.
