last night was saturday night here, and the grand final of the Aussie rules football (which we dont follow, we have two main football codes here, both totally different from each other).
My husband was off work and got a phone call asking him to do an overtime night shift. So I took him to work, came home and got the kids to bed. Jr Tassie was up until after 11pm
and I eventually forced to come into my bed to try to get her to settle.
A few minutes after I got settled in bed, I kept hering this weird woooooshing noise, a noise i had never heard before. i also heard voices, so I thought it was a neighbour working on a car or bike or something, so I didnt get up and check.
I kept hearing it though, and my curiousity got the better of me. when i looked out my bedroom window, all I could see was SMOKE and flames!!!!
there were two guys out on the road, one on a pushbike, the other was crouching on the ground trying to light something, next thing, that whooooooshing noise, and flames shooting about 10 feet up!!!!!!
Our house is below theirs. The blocks are teraced, and their block is about 6 feet above ours, with a retaining wall at our side and the front.I was so worried that their house was on fire, and that ours would go up.Where the guys were out on the street was behind my car.
So, I rang the police and when I went to look out the window again, I saw my husband's workbag (the guy he was replacing turned up so he came home, THANK GOD!!!)
He had set his front lawn on fire (remember we are in a severe drought and level 5 water restrictions) and at 2am there was still smoke coming from their house. I couldnt sleep from the smoke.
This morning he (the neighbour) came and appologised and said he had been celebrating a bit too much (ya think?!?! I wouldn't call that celebrating!!) and that he had been told that he even tried to ride his bicycle off the retaining wall!!!
I am just so glad that the fire didn't get out of control, and that they did't get hurt when playing with the liquid they were lighting up. They were pouring something on the road, letting it run down the hill then setting it alight!
We have never had any problem with these people and they are hardly ever there. I think they travel for work, so this was really out of the ordinary.
I live very close to a college, and often have unusual things happen, but nothing like THIS!
