Advice

Ok Micechat...
I have the opportunity to move to the East Coast for a couple of years. Specifically, Wallingford, Pa (A suburb of Philly). My mom was promoted, but one of the stipulations of her promotion was moving to PA. At first, it was an obvious choice for me NOT to go. So, I moved in with my dad and kissed my mom goodbye. But, the more I think about it, the more I feel like I want to give it a try. I've never even BEEN to the east coast, and there is so much to see and do over htere... She lives near a university there which I can easily transfer to, and it just seems like it would be such an adventure..
I guess my question is, what would you do in this situation? Anyone from PA want to tell me how it is over there? I have a job lined up with Sony Pictures once I graduate, so it would only be for a couple of years until I finish school, but I just need some advice...

You're not married and you don't have kids right? If that's the case, this is a great time in your life to explore other areas of the country and world. What have you got to lose?

I have nothing tying me down other than the rest of my family who still live here in CA, and my fear of change/the unknown. I am a California girl at heart, and know that unless I TOTALLY fall in love with the East Coast, I will live here and raise my future family here...(Plus I have the job of my dreams lined up, here in CA) I just think that, as scary as it sounds, a change may do me some good. Thanks for the advice so far... keep it coming!!!

Oh, and yes, PB... if I don't like it, I can come back and live with my dad (but would have to transfer back which I'm sure wouldn't be a big deal..)

Personally, I've never been to Philly so I couldn't tell you how the cost of living would be or just the environment but I always say change is good. And yes, there will be this fear of the unknown but if your future job requires some amount of travel, you need to get over that fear.

I say you should go for that opportunity if that adventure awaits you.

I'm another one who is going to vote for you to "DO IT!" This is a wonderful opportunity for you. When I was young (early 20's) I had the opportunity to live overseas and then on the East Coast. Wonderful memories!

Moving across the country was the best thing I ever did Transferring schools across the country was the second best thing I ever did.
I went to school for 2 years in PA (neat Pittsburgh, though), and it's just gorgeous out there!
you have a place to live and your mom and you can continue school... why not?
You never know what will happen or how it will change your life!

Ok, so... I decided that I'm going to go visit her in Philly for two weeks in November, and if I like it, I'll move and transfer and live there until I am done with College, and if I DONT like it, I'll stay here in Cali..

I have a friend that lives in Wilmington, DE, so I go visit him at least once, sometimes twice a year. I love it back there! Not sure it's a place where I'd want to live specifically, but I do love the history of the area. Philly is a modern city and the people all seem to be relatively nice (it's a gay friendly city too which I personally approve of).

The one drawback - the Philly airport sucks! But aside from that, it's only 90 minutes from NYC, about an hour from Baltimore, 90 minutes or so from Washington, DC. I love that it's centrally located to other big cities, which means day and weekend trips are aplenty.

If I had the opportunity, I'd say give it a shot!

If I had no boyfriend and no career, I'd definitely go! When else are you going to get an oppurtunity like this? You can use your free weekends to explore the East Coast!
