What to do on Christmas Day???

So, I just found out that my brother is going to be at his new fiance's house for Christmas. My grandfather passed away in May so on Christmas day it will just be my mom, my dad and myself. We will be celebrating most of our Christmas another day, leaving December 25th open. What should we do??? We haven't ruled out going to Disneyland, but I really don't want to deal with the crowds.

Any ideas for an alternative Chirstmas Day?? Places to eat???

we spend Christmas eve w/ the entire family (cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents). Christmas morning we open presents w/ the kids, go to my mom's house for brunch, and usually go to our good friends house for dinner, but this year they all moved to Dallas. This year we we have Christmas dinner in Chinatown.

All my family is 1400 miles away. I usually spend Christmas catching up on my sleep or sometimes I go to a movie.

How about you guys going to a show, or to another park? play games at home with a quiet meal, or invite a few friends over who may not have anything to do to and spend time with them.
I got 3 kids I can send your way, after all I will have them christmas eve and christmas day, I would gladly share them that night :lol: Seiously, come over we would love to have you!! ( Or I can ship them to you !

awwwww how bout we have a chat here on micechat? my kids are all busy with the new gadgets, I got time to play on line if you were closer I would cook you a big meal and my kids could drive you insane :lol:

You might considering volunteering to feed the less fortunate at a shelter. I guarantee that you will feel the holiday spirit if you are helping others.

Do a Christmas Story day.

Watch the movie in the morning. Put some turkey in the oven, have some dogs run through the house, go eat chinese turkey (duck) at a chinese restaurant, stick your tongue on a frozen flag pole and break a circuit or two in your house.

Our family are frequently volunteers already and our shelters are bombarded with people wanting to help on holidays, so we normally don't do that.

I am liking the idea of going to the movies, but where could we eat? I wonder what is open on Christmas.

If we go out to eat on Christmas we go to our favorite Jewish Deli. Not that I need an excuse to eat a big pastrami sandwich.

You can always stop by a retirement home and visit with people there that have no family in town for Christmas.

ain't that the truth!! nothing would be so awsome then to say hi to those with out family, maybe bring cookies and some chat time. you know what? I am going to call the rest home near my house ( 1 block away) and see if we, my kids and I can go see the folks there for an hour. I am betting they would love to see my little ones and I am going to make goodies!!! thank you Molly Trolly, this was the best idea and I really wanted to make a difference during the holidays.
we have already donated the boys big wheels ( hardly ever played with, and 2 scooters and bikes. a sand box turtle, and a giant barbie motor car to some child in a neighboring low income projects to add to christmas raffles they do every year when they have a giant party for the kids. Taking my kids to see the elderly would not only be a good thing, but show my kids giving to others is as important as getting!

How about that beautiful restaurant that's up on the hill overlooking Orange County? I don't know the exact name of it, but I saw it once when we were staying at a church near it . I think it was off of Hwy 55 and up a steep road.


My family has a tradition of going to the Shadowbrook Restaurant in Santa Cruz for Christmas Eve dinner because it is always decorated really pretty and had great food. And it's the kind of place you only go once a year for a very special occasion.

The idea of going to a retirement community is such a great one! Last year the co-op had our "winter concert" (the kids learned like 5 songs) at the Alzheimer center near the school. They loved it. The kids messed up on "Driedel, Driedel, Driedel," but the older people loved seeing cute little kids in their holiday best singing to them offering them sweets and such. Even at my grandparents home the older people loved to see people dressed up and they want to talk to anyone willing to talk.

Invite people over who don't have any family or any that are near.

Christmas can be very sad and lonely for people.

We've gone to Disneyland on Christmas day, and many of the guides and online advice will tell you, it's hit and miss. We found Christmas Day last year to be pretty magical and only mildly crowded. Sorry for your loss.
