  • The Word of the Day: R E M I S S I O N

    Greetings MiceChatters!

Yes, that's the word of the day - why? Because I am in remission! I am still somewhat in shock, but I am proud to say that I am indeed in remission.

This has been an incredibly wild year. A year ago tomorrow, my wife went into labor with our son - what an exciting time. Five weeks after Grant was born, I went in for surgery on what 3 doctors told me was a 'textbook' inguinal hernia - and I came out of surgery not having had a hernia, but with a shocking diagnosis of cancer.

I began chemotherapy in January - and quickly lost my hair - ALL OF IT. It was a crazy time in my life.....but I tried my darndest to get through it with a smile. As if fatherhood wasn't going to be a big enough adjustment, now I had to adjust to it and get through cancer treatment consecutively!

July saw the end of my chemo - and a disappointing 'partial remission' from my doctor. So, in August, I started a month of daily radiation treatments.

Today, I must say I was on pins and needles. I didn't know what was going to happen - was I in remission? Was I going to need stem-cell transplant (which would be the next step for conquering Hodgkins Lymphoma).

I guess I walked out of City of Hope today with a glow about me - maybe it was all that radiation! HA HA

Anyway, REMISSION is the word! But I wanted to thank all of you here on MiceChat that have been so encouraging through the course of my cancer treatment.

Thank you all so much for the support you have provided - in word and in deed.

And now that I am in remission..........it's time to get back to my life.

I just joined Micechat, but I have been lurking for 2 years, so I feel like I know everyone REALLY well. I was just thinking about you the other day wondering how you were doing, since I hadn't seen anything from you in awhile. I was just thinking of messaging you. And then today, when I officially joined, here is your post. I can't quite tell you how your journey and your posts have touched my life. My dad died when I was 15 from Pancreatic Cancer and I am so happy to hear that won't be the case for your son!!!! Congratulations! Your positivity and enthusiasm for life has been contagious and I want to thank you for showing us that is possible. Enjoy this great time!!!

I'm speechless, as your post made my eyes water. I'm so glad that something positive came out of my having cancer. If I was able to get through it with a SMILE and that inspired someone or benefits someone and propels one to want to have a better life, then my suffering is all worth it.

Thank you for your kind post.

According to Dictionary.com, the word of the day is actually Palindrome.

Just thought I'd point that out.
                            What an idiot....

Yeah, I do that Twitter thing.
