In Finland, they register births in the church. At least they did, when Fanny was born, back in 1889. Fanny was born in Tampere, Finland. She was the last child born to her parents.

Fanny once said that she didn't believe that man landed on the moon. She said that they just made all that up. She was born in the late 1800's in Finland. Never really heard the story about how she traveled to the United States. She settled in Waukegan, and was married there. Waukegan has a large Finnish population. She had many friends there. She was the youngest child, of 7 and two of her siblings died as young children. She spoke better Finnish, than she did English. She only had one son, who only had one son. My husband was her grandson, and now he has one grandson.

By the time that I met Fanny she was hard of hearing. She wouldn't wear the hearing aid that the doctor provided her with. She loved animals, and doted on her grandson. He spent all his summers with her, from the time he was a very young boy, until he met me.

She came to Chicago to live with us, when my boys were young. Considering her age, she was very healthy. She was 95 years old when she died.

Wow, can you imagine being Fanny, and seeing things progress through time......... how amazing that would have been.

For example for us cell phones have gone from being as big as your shoe to these little tiny fit in your palm things, and just being able to use them as a phone to know being able to use them as a camera, phone, get email, ect......

Amazing things she had seen and lived through..... Thanks Barbaraann
