  • Tips on tying a tie

Anybody have any tips on tying a tie?
I don't have to wear a tie for work so there only a few occasions a year where I actually need to wear one. My 10 year reunion is this Saturday which means I need to start tying my tie tonight so I get it right for Saturday.............. That's how good I am at it. (Maybe just more of a perfectionist actually.)
How do I get a good sized knot with that nice dimple right in the middle and also have the right length?
Size does matter in the case people.

I like the look of a Windsor knot best.

      Thanks!
I've seen this site before and still seem to mess it up.
I'll give it a try again though.

It takes several tries to get the hang of tying a tie. Once you got it down though, it's like riding a bike.

        Good luck!

And when you get your tie tied how you like it, just loosen it enough to pull off over your head so when Saturday rolls around you don't have to retie it again.

^ I'm not sure that's what he's going for Duck.
I wish I could help, but I'm hopeless when it comes to tying a tie.

It's funny. I can do it but I can't explain it. I can't tie one opposite either.

Tie's suck. They look good when they're done right but if they're screwed up you look stupid. I have a pretty big neck for my size so no matter what I'm uncomfortable.

That's me too. I can tie one just fine ... but I certainly can't explain it or tie it on someone else. If I'm doing it for someone else I have to tie it on myself first then loosen it up for them.

Word of advice, if you only have a few, tie them (or have somebody tie them) but don't undo them. Just leave them loose for the next time.

I have about 5 ties up in my closet just like that.

I know it's bad for the tie but I'm not wearing them everyday so it's fine.
It's just that I had to buy a new tie today I need to tie it myself. I'll practice tonight.

Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed

it was fun, although ocassionally monotonous (sp?)
if i was in a show i always got one of the best costumes because everyone in the shop liked me
and yes ocasionally there was costume tomfoolery

Re: Tips on tying a tie

I like the look of ties and growing up my dad taught my brother, and I forced him to teach me how to do it (like the name in the snow thing...).

                                      Best tips:
-put the tie just half and half around your neck. Pull down the bigger part about... a quarter way. Like so the skinny part it either at your belly button or above it.
-Basically it's a 1.5 wrap around with the bigger part around the little part and then put the bigger part under the wrap part and pull down.
-Just fiddle with it until it looks right. Play with it...

Remember it's a tie. Ask your wife too. She might be able to tie a tie.

Re: Tips on tying a tie

I had to wear a tie for 5 years for one job. the windsor knot is the larger knot.

I would follow a link. It's gong to be difficult to describe in words. Most of the time I just tied the smaller know.
