Colbert says he's running for president: Can he take the heat?

We'll say it before you do: Is there room for another comedian in the presidential race?
Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert says yes there is!
Colbert announced he's a candidate last night. Now he just has to decide whether he'll run as a Republican, Democrat -- or both. And whether he can take the kind of scrutiny that doomed Pat Paulsen and others who've gone before him.
Before he broke the news on his show, Colbert teased the nation (yeah, right!; maybe the Colbert Nation) on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart

I saw the official announcement a couple days ago. I would definitely vote for him.

I would vote for him... I do get a little creeped out when I see him sometimes because I once had a dream that he was chasing me with a gun and trying to shoot me (no idea why?!)

I would vote for him... I do get a little creeped out when I see him sometimes because I once had a dream that he was chasing me with a gun and trying to shoot me (no idea why?!)

I've had a strange nightmare featuring him before too. But no matter, that sassy man has my vote.

Not only would he, as a candidate, promote "truthiness", but he'd be the only candidate (besides maybe Hillary) to admit he has "balls". I have little doubt this will be fun to watch. I hope his opponents don't bring up his heavy use of pain medications during his wrist energy.

Seeing as how he had the balloons fall when he announced it, and several news sites report it as true, I think it was no joke

I'm voting for the guy from Arkansas who lost like 100lbs.... I don't know his name, but he seems like a great guy and I really like is P.O.V.s. And I like a guy that understands that a lot of kids are overweight and need help. Get us out of this war and get kids skinny!

Now if Carrell ran, he was my favorite guy from the Daily Show...

Colbert can't even run across stage without hurting himself, let alone run for president. Now I would vote for Jon Stewart - If I weren't already voting for Goldwater/Miller '08

CNN is reporting that the Democrats won't let Colbert run. He is not running as a Republican because of the fees involved. All I can say is South Carolina, You're on Notice!
