  • credit card question

The other day I got a credit card in the mail.. It's a regular citi bank card. It said it replaced my Macy's card - except I don't have a Macy's card. Can I just call and cancel this? Will they try to talk me into keeping it? I'm weak about tat stuff but I REALLY don't want another line of credit on my credit report.
    Thanks.

Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain

I knew you'd feel the same things...

    Re: credit card question

I think it's a scam......if you don't have a Macy's card how can it be replaced. Did you ever have a Bullock's card????? Bullock's got bought by Macy's 13 years ago or so........not sure why I pulled that out of the hat, but thought maybe in some way, that is how this all happened.....

Sounds like a fraud attempt was made.

Call the credit check companies and get your credit report checked out.

I agree with Trace. Working in finance I see A LOT of fraud, and it seems weird to me that you would be getting offers to replace a card that you never even had.. it's better to be safe than sorry.

That's like basically the same thing that happened to me, it was a scam. Go to your bank and find out, I don't recomend doing it over the phone.

            Re: credit card question

I've seen the Macy's regular card and I've seen the Macy's citicard. I don't think one replaces the other. I think it's an additional card. I would definitely call and question it. And you can cancel any credit cards any time you want as long as the balance is paid in full. Just don't keep opening and then clsoing various accounts because that can look kind of bad on your credit report. Better to stick with one or two credit cards you like best and use them but always keep the balance as low as possible or paid off.

              Never heard of Bullocks )

This is an actual real card, not an offer. and it sure looks official, the paperwork and all, you know even the small print. I just realized I should go and compare the number they say to call vs. citi's real number.

I have 2 reg cards, plus two other store cards. I don't want or need any more )

I will check my credit report too.!

Take it to your branch and show it too them. If you don't bank at Citibank find a branch and show it too them. It's better in person. Don't use it. Make sure that Citi Bank know you don't have a Macy's card and don't want this card. Take someone with you if you feel they will browbeat you into taking it, if it's real.

They wouldn't send you a REAL card unless you showed interest in it.. i.e. applied for it.. def. get it checked out.

Citibank IS a real bank, but, they are mostly in the east. I live on the west coast, and work for a bank, but, we do not have Citibank here.

I would call information and ask for a Citibank 800# and call THAT number. Not the number on the card. They may ask for pertinent information that and that could really be bad. Check your credit bureau and see if that card appears. Hang on to it in case there is any problem later, but, I'd absolutely check it out. A lot of scams are happening these days. It's sickening.

Absolutely. I agree 100%. The days of sending out unsolicited credit cards are OVER.
