  • Where did you live when you moved out?

When you first moved away from good ol' mom and dad how old were you, where did you move, and what was your place like?

I was eighteen years old, just a few days after graduation. I moved to Provo, UT and rented a dippy little basement apartment for three hundred a month. Brown carpet, no cable TV. Loved it!

A place right on Orangethorpe and Gilbert in Fullerton. $499 to split a bedroom, horrible landlord who never officially said she lived there but then lived on the couch and ate people's food without asking, the kitchen was always gross, and I shared a room with a girl who was very alternative in her life.

I was 16 when I left home for the 1st time. I moved to a studio apartment in Huntington Beach with my ex and Paige. We lived there for 2 years until the ex and I broke up, and we ended up back with my parents.

Paige and I moved out again just over a year ago. We now live with Anders in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment in Irvine.

I was 19 and moved in with a guy. BAD MOVE. My parents were totally against it. It was in Simi Valley, not far from where I lived. It was a nice house. Then I met Clinks and we moved into a friends apartment and we had NOTHING.

Three bedroom house with shag carpet(Yuck!), but the rest of the house was in perfect shape. Perfect bachelor pad and rent was cheap. Not too mention it was in a good neighborhood.
The only bad thing out of all of it was occasionally there was a Medi- Flight Helicopter landing nearby at the hospital. The vibration from the copter blades would shake the house.
But very glad there are such resources like this to save lives.

I moved into an apartment, 2 bedroom, in the same neighborhood I grew up in. It was nice, but small. I kind of miss it sometimes. It was in an apartment complex, a walk from the train, 20 minutes train ride into the city. Everything around me. For a few months we had no counch or table. But of course, we had a TV. So we use the box as a table and sat on the floor.

Re: Where did you live when you moved out?

I was 21 or 22. I moved to a two bedroom two bath apartment. It was only $575.00 a month back in the day (early 90's) The same one goes for about $1k now. I loved the apartment, but hated the neighbor below me. he had one of those 80's mega stereos and he would blare it. It would literally shake the apartment and make the pictures crooked on the walls, not to mention waking up the baby.

I did love the apartment or maybe just being on my own. Alas, after the divorce I could not afford it. I was only working part time and not making very much. So, I moved back with my parents and about 2 years later moved out again.

Re: Where did you live when you moved out?

I was a late bloomer (mostly because I didn't graduate college until I was 24 and lived at home for college, and had every intention of moving out shortly after that, but then my dad died and I had mom and other stuff to take care of because of that).

Anyway I finally moved out when I was 28 with my friend Scott (who is now married to my niece) to an apartment in Burbank for $300 each. Landlord sucked, the place was dumpy compared to the other apartment buildings on the street. But the memories we made there will last me forever.

Re: Where did you live when you moved out?

I moved out when I was 17, right after graduation with a group of friends--3 guys and my best friend. We rented a fully furnished gorgeous house (one of the guy's grandma's house) on a river for $200 apiece, including all utilities. We had the best summer! We'd do family-style dinners, the boys would barbecue and do the dishes. One of the guys was SO clean, he drove the rest of us crazy.

It was great, considering my parents were divorcing at the time. I think I had the most mature home life of my mom, dad and me. And I lived with smelly farting boys.

The five of us lived together until I decided to take a nanny job in late Sept. and moved to Portland, then went on to college the following year. But out of everyone I was close to in high school, I'm still the closest to these four people. We were in each other's weddings and we still talk all the time.

Re: Where did you live when you moved out?

Well...I moved into student housing while I was in college, but moved back in with my parents so I could pay off my loans instead of paying rent. When I finally did move out (in 2001), it was into a tiny studio apartment - that cost $1k/month. It was really close to LAX, so every time a plane landed, the windows rattled. Management was meh, but at the time I loved it because I was on my own. It was the only time I ever lived completely by myself.

I moved out when I was 17 into my college dorm. I was on the university's minors watch list for my first two weeks of college. The list was also known as jailbait watch by the frats on campus.

I was 22, the summer after college graduation and I moved....all the way across the street from my parents' house. Right across was a property with a house and a little 1 bedroom mother-in-law unit. The woman who lived in the little house was getting married and moving, so my now-husband and I moved in. It was $500 a month. It was so cute and cozy, and if I didn't want to cook dinner, I could just run across the street and see what they were having.

I was 20. Went to San Diego. My first year I was in student housing. Same with the second, but they were like on-campus apartments. Then I moved to a couple different apartments down there and then a condo by Miramar Air Station. I didn't mind living so close. It was kinda cool actually.

My dad's company transferred him from Chico, CA to the Bay Area while I was in my senior year of HS. I moved into an apt. with two of my brothers, 25 and 19 yrs old. That was interesting. Got engaged during my 1st semester of college and moved out with my fiance a month later.

We had an older, 1 bdrm apt. that was $280 a month. Can't remember if it had A/C, but it had a wall furnace for heat. It also had those old crank open windows. Our furniture was a mix of his (snazzy fur-trimmed waterbed), mine (girly chest of drawers and a 12in. black & white TV), and hand-me-downs from various family members. The TV stand was a milk crate covered with a Van Halen scarf thingy. And we kept our mountain bikes in the kitchen. Klassy.

That explains the trouble that I'm always in...

I moved out into an apartment with two of my guy friends (they were a couple) my first semester of college... in hindsight I dont remember why I thought it was a good idea because my parents didn't live very far from the school I go to.. anyway it was cool and all and we were all really tidy but the second semester we started having WAY too many parties and my grades started to slip, and whenever the guys would argue they would want me to take sides and it ended up being too much stress so I moved back home... It was a good experience though and I still love my friends dearly..

I think I moved out when I was 20 or 21. I moved into a duplex in Signal Hill/Long Beach that had been converted from a 1 bedroom to a studio. The landlords had the back part of the house and were really cool. I had a full size kitchen and bath, little dining room and my living area. I FREAKIN LOVED IT! I was only there for a year though. I moved back in with my Mom so I could save for my wife and my wedding. Even though I'm married now, I still miss it to this day. While I was there I learned a lot about myself actually. My love for Disney, design, Nightmare Before Christmas, cooking, etc, etc.

I always felt I was being watched though. So much so that some nights I'd get home and swear someone was in my house. It wasn't until I moved out that I found out my landlords Aunt had died in there before I moved in.........

I was 25. I moved from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Tampa, Florida to be with my then boyfriend as we were going to get married. Yeah.... that didn't happen (I dumped him 6 years ago). My first place was.... a roach motel on steroids. Thankfully we only lived there for 2 months before we moved to a much nicer and bigger place. After 3 years there (after I dumped the ex, I had a roommate from hell for a year), I moved to a 1-bedroom in the same complex. After 2 years there, I got a job in Clearwater and moved again. Been at my current place 3 years and I love it. I plan on staying here for a long time.
