  • 'Tis the season for yum yums!

It's that time of year when store shelves are filled with chocolates, candies, other fat inducing goodness, seasonal fruits, mixed nuts, and egg nog (the more liquor the better :lol.

What's your favourite seasonal food at this time of the year?

We picked up our first case of mandarin oranges. I absolutely love mandarin oranges. I must've eaten a dozen today.

We also roasted up our first batch of the year of chestnuts today. Mmmmm, it's all good until you bite into one that is sour. Yuck.:yuck:

Still haven't had any egg nog this year, but I'm looking forward to it.

We hit the mall this afternoon and it was like shopping at Costco.

Free samples were handed out by quite a few of the vendors like See's, Hickory Farms and a few independent sales booths in the center of the mall.

      Tis the season!

It's funny that people think the samples at Costco are free. Nope. Why do you think you have to pay for a membership there?

I had eggnog tonight! It's on!

What can I eat next? Oh, I did have some maple sugar candy a couple of weeks ago, too. That's my real holiday vice.

The only thing I'm looking forward to is getting some truffles at See's. Unfortunately, they're 3,000 miles away so I have to wait until I visit DL to go there and buy a huge box to bring back home. I'll also buy something that is sealed for the flight attendants.

              :botox:

So I can buy stuff in larger quantities and at cheaper prices than the stores down the street. With a family of six, our membership fee more than pays for itself in money saved throughout the year. My annual 2% rebate check more than covers my membership fee and puts money back into my pocket.

Therefore, since I don't actually finish up the year with any out of pocket expenses for my membership (and come out with more money thanks to the rebate) the free samples that they hand out to us ARE free.

That is, if you want to get technical about it.

If you have a problem with Costco, write your Congressman...

Eggnog and pumpkin pies for us.

Right after Thanksgiving, we'll add bizcochitos to that list.

We made cookie dough and froze it. Snickerdoodle, sugar, gingerbread, oatmeal spice, chocolate, and peanut butter cookie dough is all sitting in the freezer right now. We have egg nog and apple cider in the fridge. Haven't had either (I don't like apple cider. Never have...).

I am looking forward to making latkes. Making them the 20th, sweet potato, and baked (for grandpa). And I know I am not Jewish... I am craving cranberry sauce and all the Thanksgiving fixings...

Pumpkin pie, chocolate oatmeal no bake cookies, sugar cookies, roasted nuts, and sweet potato casserole.

                                      Those are my vices. Yummy!

My grandson really loves the eggnog from the store. I can't keep enough of it in the house, when he is over.

My personal favorite are the boxed chocolate covered cherries (Dark Chocolate only).
