regarding the little green boxes the display under the location, join date and number of posts. some have 1, 2, 3 or 4. the number (of boxes) doesn't seem to control the message when you mouse over. (so and so is on a distinguished road, for example)

what determines how many are displayed and what the message is?

The little green boxes are "reputation" that you have recieved and given away.

Definitely read the FAQ because it explains the reputation system. To check the reputation comments you have recieved, go to the User CP.

Reputation

Here at MiceChat, we are all about Reputation. Reputation is points that
you can give out to good posters, and take away from bad posters.
The idea is self-moderation, and that problems will take care of themselves when it comes to naughty posters.

To give positive or negative reputation click the under the user's post, to the left. A pop-up will confirm where you can leave a note if you like.

If you are a bad user, and you have a reputation less than 0, you can only post in the "Litter Box", if you have a reputation of less than -500, you are automatically banned. However, if you are a demoted user, try to get some positive reputation. Time will give you that reputation as well.

While it may sound easy, there are actually some complicated guidelines that the Reputation system follows:

1. You start at a reputation of 10 points.
2. For every week you are registered, you will gain 1 point.
3. For every 100 posts, you will gain 1 point.
4. Your reputation won't count on other users until you have 25 posts.
5. You must have 10 points of reputation, to give out reputation.
6. You are only allowed to give out 10 reputations per day.
7. You must at least give 10 other users reputation, before you can give someone one twice.

Administrators, and Moderators are except from many of these rules.

I am not sure how many points it takes to get a second, third, etc... green box.... But the more points you have, the more green boxes you get...

And you get a Red box if you get negative points...

The more points, the more boxes. There are a bunch of different messages. More messages than boxes (and some messages span boxes - the one between 3 and 4 for example).

But don't focus on it too much. The site isn't about little green boxes. It is about Disney.
