  • Springtime Roses

Springtime has finally come to the Sierra Foothills...and it's looking to be a banner year for my rose collection (I have about 10-12 different bushes).

So, presented for your enjoyment, are some of this morning's pics; I'll post more as the others start to bloom.

So what roses are we looking at? That last one looks like "Joesph's Coat".

They look like the Disneyland Rose....??? Beautiful no matter what they are! Thanks for the pics, can hardly wait for summer to arrive!
Mom, remember, it's not what a person is like on the outside that counts,
it's what they are like in their HEART!

I'm sorry, I wish I knew! I can tell you that all the ones in the front yard (which are what's shown) are non-patents (the only patent rose I tried in that part of the yard died inside one summer).

I should have had the varieties written down somewhere, but I sort of doubt it.

In another week, the rose "tree" should be in full bloom. This is over 10' high at the front door, and has a trunk 6" in diameter. The rose variety was planted when the house was constructed nearly 50 years ago, and as such, is one of the few left that still has that native rose "scent" that's been bred out of so many...

More soon. Stay tuned, and thanks for the other shots!

                    Re: Springtime Roses

I'll try to get some pictures of my mom;s neighbor's roses while I'm home. She has green roses. The rose itself is actually as green as the leaves. It has been handed down from generation to generation in her family. Weirdest thing I've ever seen. I've loved it since I was a kid. I'll take pics if it's in bloom.

Here's two more, presented for your consideration:

And this one is from the rose "tree" I described earlier, by our front door. The aroma from these is heavenly:

                          Re: Springtime Roses

I love roses, especially the varigated ones. I only have two rosebushes, but both produce a lot of roses. Only one has bloomed so far (the other is in bud state). Here's a couple pictures from my favorite rosebush (sorry for the big pictures, but photo bucket is acting up and won't let me resize):

                              Re: Springtime Roses

How pretty!!!!!!!!! I love the colors of all the roses!!

We don't have rosebushes anymore, no place for them. We tried and they just didn't grow due to hard ground in the only area possible. Plus plants and bushes don't really last around here with the snow and frost and below freezing temps we get in the winter. Even last April we had an ice storm - killed everything that was starting to bloom.
Press today is so concerned with cool vs. not cool that they're starting to forget good vs. bad. I'm not sure I'll ever be "cool", but I will always tirelessly strive to be "great". - Josh Groban
