  • Mood Music. Name Your Favorite Happy, Sad, Love & Misc. song

I am a HUGE music fan, I love my iPOD, and as soon as marriage between man and pod is recognized, I will marry it.

In the meantime, music is very influential. What songs do you like to hear when you are:

    Happy?

    Sad?

    In Love?

Misc. (for those great songs but they don't have a clear home)

Feel free to post past, & present versions of your picks

Hmmm...I made a playlist on my iPod mini consisting of calming/love songs. Afew of them are:

          "Cry Baby" by Janis Joplin
"God Help the Outcasts" from the movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame
"Maybe I'm Amazed" by Jem (from the OC soundtrack)
"Who's Loving You" by the Jackson 5 (before Jacko became whacko)
"Feed the Birds (Tuppence a Bag)" from Mary Poppins
"California Dreamin'" by the Mamas and the Papas
"Whole Again" by Play (I know, I'm a dork.)
"Baby, I Love Your Way" by Peter Frampton
          "Daughters" by John Mayer
"Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer
          "Baby Mine" from Dumbo
          "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen
And, of course, "Fernando" by ABBA.

Pretty much ANYTHING from Radiohead, they are my all time favorite.

Creep could be my theme song. Knives Out is so amazing,. Ahh, to be a cool British Rock God.....

Oh well, it's much better to be a crisis counselor in the middle of the desert...

Well, I think crisis counselors are unofficial rock gods? haha

The new Death Cab single is good. I miss the Postal Service.

                    ^ You're too kind!

I loved the Postal Service, an ex-GF got me started on them, and then we broke up, so it kind of ruined them for me, but I still love that CD. Especially the District Sleeps:

"I'll wear my badge... a vinyl sticker with bigh block letters adherent to my chest
That tells your new friends i am a visitor here...
                    I am not permanent"

I read that they chose that name because they would mail each other their tracks via US mail because they were on opposite coasts. So they picked the Postal Service.
                    Are they done for good?

man... how to narrow it down??

happy- fun 80's era pop. we have a great radio station here that plays almost entirely 80's (along with some late 70's & early 90's). i have to be able to sing along though. :yea:

pissed off- hard rock. Chevelle, Rage Against the Machine, etc... :verymad:

Love- Air Supply, Peter cetera, Blessid Union of souls

Calming (work)-classical and string arrangements. I have a number of those String Quartet tribute to... CDs. those are great for work!

misc- Sister hazel, John mayer, Jason mraz

I don't know if they're done for good or not. Ben Gibbard and Death Cab are going on their fall tour this... fall... so, I think they're on hold. I  the Postal Service. I'm sorry that they are ruined for you because of your ex. But they still rule. If you want, PM me and I can send you the new Death Cab single via email or IM or whatnot.

                        HAPPY SONGS:
Come on feel the Illinoise - Sufjan Stevens
Anything by the Boy Least Likely To
Reckless by Tilly and the Wall

The Postal Service is amazing, as is Rilo Kiley (PS backup singer Jenny Lewis).

Anyway, as much as I like songs, I'm going to list here a different way, by CD/artist:

                            A good CD for...

...driving around an urban landscape late at night: anything by Tosca, Peace Orchestra or Kruder & Dorfmeister

...taking a road trip on the open highway: Son Volt, Wilco & Uncle Tupelo (all connected bands, yes)

...having an uber silly day: They Might Be GiantsTori AmosTom WaitsSaint EtienneThe Beach Boys - Sunflower & Surf's Up

Re: Mood Music. Name Your Favorite Happy, Sad, Love & Misc. song

Sad would definitely be the one that I am listening to right now, "American Pie". After I heard the news of the death of Peter Jennings, I just sat at my computer listening to it, over and over again. "Send in the Clowns" sung by Sinatra was at the top a couple of weeks ago.

My musical mood changes all of the time, so it all depends. I love love songs, and the love songs I like are always sad or at least hint at sadness. As of late, "A Time for Us" from Romeo and Juliet (the 60s version of course) was at the top of my list. "Yesterday" (the Beatles) is always up top, followed by "She Loves You" (the Beatles).

When I want to feel victorious, I always listen to Dylan's "Positively 4th Street" or "Mrs. Robinson" by Simon and Garfunkle.

And of course, soundtracks always adjust to my mood. Sometimes it will be "Poltergeist" or "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and other times, Disney's "Sleeping Beauty".
