  • Where to Donate Clothes, Household Goods, etc?

    Hi gang.
I'm going through all my stuff as I pack it, and of course I'd like to donate as much as I can. I'd rather donate to more local causes but I'm not sure how that will work lol.

First, I remember hearing about an organization that helps provide homeless women with clothes for job interviews. I have some "nicer" clothes I'd like to donate to an organization like that. Anyone know the name?

Also, I have some stuff like electronics (routers and such).
And the usual blankets and books and bags and clothes etc.
Who knows what else Il'l find going through my stuff! LOL
Is there some place that will take it all.

Lastly, I have a bunch of toiletries. Some are free samples, and some are used. I'm assuming no place takes them? I hate to just throw all that away!

    TY for any suggestions!
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Dress for Success is the organization that gives clothes to women for work/interviews. I've volunteered for them before and am going to a fundraiser next weekend. It's a great cause!

Goodwill takes almost anything but cribs and beds.

Thanks Stink... there's none in my area, unfortunately, and the one where I'm moving to only takes whole suits.

I was hoping for more local organizations (I'm in Los Angeles). Goodwill was a last resort but I guess it's the easiest one LOL

I usually give stuff to good will or this local thrift store. My Bf does not like giving stuff to the salvation army for personal reasons.

              And TVs and computers.

When I do my annual closet clean-out, I give what I don't want anymore to Goodwill. I have 2 small bags of clothes I need to drop off sometime this week. I don't like giving to the Salvation Army unless I absolutely have to because they're anti-gay.

We have a place called Deseret Industries. Great place - they give people with handicaps and disabilities jobs and job training.

Also a Youth Ranch - I know that they have one in Idaho and Arizona.

Google local women's shelters. They're probably looking for clothes and such and wouldn't care if you had full suits or just half. Plus they might get a kick out of some of the sample toiletries.

Do you have a WEAVE nearby? They're super great since all the money made at the thrift store supports women who need it. Cancer Society thrift stores also donate all the money taken in by the thrift store to cancer research. The employees are volunteers only. Cancer research is always a great cause. Good luck finding something nearby!

I know our Children's Hospital has a thrift store that I drop used items off at. Your local one may have one as well. Then you could drop of your house ware type stuff of there, and then your clothing could go to a womens shelter.

I did a little research and found this list of places in the L.A. area that take different types of donations and they list what area they are in:

Give it to a place that doesn't charge a lot for the stuff.

I like Vietnam Vets, mostly because they pick up all the time.

Out of the Closet is another great one.

Salvation Army was the ONLY place that would come and pick up my huge heavy expensive entertainment center when nobody else wanted it.

Pick a place that YOU want to give to first. Mostly, they are all great causes.

my BF says they're anti semitic as well. IDK, it's just as easy to donate to another charity.
