We were talked into going to a time share promotion for a free 3 day cruise. Has anybody ever gone to one of these?

My in-laws do it all the time. Prepare to be brow beaten. As long as you don't actually buy one you'll be fine.

buying one is not an option for us, but if you're parents can say no, we can also...

(with that said, I have something like 15 jokes, but I'm not going to derail my own thread until I get the info I need)

He's the trick, act semi-interested and you'll be invited to other promotions. Many pay cash. Good luck, it is a scary investment. My appologies to MiceChatters who sell time shares.

Is the cruise a three day time share sell-a-thon? I would jump overboard.

Its a 90 minute presentation. We get a 4 day 3 night cruise to Mexico in a category 1 stateroom (bunkbeds). Not prime, but free.

              Re: Time share promotions

I did one of these years ago. I got a 3 day stay in Ft Lauderdale and the a day cruise over to the Bahamas for a 4 day stay in a beachfront hotel (I paid $50 for the upgrade to a beachfront hotel) . We only had to listen to a 90 minutes sales pitch on some timeshares in Ft. Lauderdale (it was a great place too). Best part was the sales pitch was on the last day and it was storming outside. After it all, I had to admit there was no possible way I could buy a timeshare on a single income. Now a lot of companies have tightened up their conditions to attend these things. But, it was one of the best vacation I ever had!

We sat through one of these sales seminars in Vegas and we received a fancy meal over at one of the resturants in the Venetian above the indoor Gondolas, an outdoor Gondola ride(woohoo.:botoxTickets to the Wax Museum and that's all.

Not really worth it, but free is free.

I did the whole time share thing in cabo, and they also promised a 90-minute presentation. It ended up being closer to 3 hours, and they will continue to push other presentations on you while you are attempting to get your proof for whatever you earned listening to it. We ended up saving a lot of money and doing cool stuff, however I wouldn't recommend it to people that aren't comfortable being really firm (we had to say no over and over, to the point that it felt rude, don't feel bad about having to resort to that).

                    Re: Time share promotions

We signed up for a presentation a few years back while at an Angel game with the promise of an Angels World Series DVD, a 2 night stay at the MGM in Vegas and a really cool ice chest thing. We went down to Anaheim for the presentation and they acted like they had never heard of the ice chest nor the DVD. We decided to stay anyway. After 2-3 hours of listening to them (man they are relentless!) we walked out with a voucher for the Vegas trip. We felt really good about that but when we looked closer at the voucher it was only for a Sunday through Thursday stay, only during the month of August and was at their resort located just behind the MGM and not at the actual MGM casino. I was so irritated.

I know of 2 couples that had absolutely no intention of buying into the timeshare and were just going to get the free item and both ended up buying. These are pretty strong people too.

I wish this was true, I have a friend whose sister currently ownes a timeshare at some place in Vegas from one of these and they did not have the money, just wanted the free vacation, etc. With the economy down they are offering a bunch of deals, no money down, long term financing etc, they will find a deal that will work for anyone regardless of your financial status.

I think its a great opportunity, but you really need to be able to say no, and quite rudely in some instances, they will make you feel bad for taking the free trip and not buying, so you need to be mentally prepared for it and not feel guilty.

                        A little piece of heaven

We went to one of these in Cancun - to get a free day trip to some surrounding ruins, etc. And a free breakfast at a hotel buffet (which the sales person ended up coming with us to, boooo.)

We said no, we didn't have the money - they told us that's what credit cards were for. The guy kept pushing and pushing. Finally, we just said we couldn't afford it, he ripped up the sales contract that he kept shoving at us and told us we wasted his time and stormed out of the room. Real classy.
