How can I create a successful thread.

Okay, I usually wind up posting more comments in my own threads than anyone else. Can anyone tell me what I can do to hopefully create a thread that is very active and does not come down to me posting things by myself? I mainly want my ghost thread to be a bit more successful (it is the first thread I ever started to get 5 stars) and want to know if anyone has any ideads I can use to keep my threads full of life.

    Thanks.

P.S. this is the thread to my "Ghost Post" if you want to check it out.

How about don't worry about it!

None of my threads are successful, be happy you have one that is! I don't really care if my threads do well, I enjoy posting in threads that are interesting and it doesn't matter to me who created them!

I agree with you on that. Some of my threads I am surprised are still around. I think i'm just on a major "creative thread freeze" at the moment.

Plus I like talking about the "unexplained."

Maybe that is why I would like for that thread to do a bit more good.

Hey thanks for your suggestion though.

It is easy, start with a controversial subject. Find out which is the most popular oppion and come up with replies that are ludicrous and counter everyone else. Make sure you call a few people dubasses and demean their parenthood. Your thread will continue on for what will seem like forever and then an admin wull reward you for your ability to draw out people.

Re: How can I create a successful thread.

Creating threads isn't a game. It isn't about how many people post. In fact, we would rather that threads not be created for the sole purpose of getting a lot of people to respond.

Speak from your interest. If you have a topic that you feel hasn't been brought up before, or is topical, then start a thread for it. Set the thread up well in your first post and then let it go.

Resist the temptation to smother a thread or over-post. This will almost always kill a thread.

Whether one person reads your thread or a thousand, it doesn't really matter as long as you had fun putting the thread together or feel rewarded by it. You never know which ones are going to catch fire. My grandmother always said, "Watched water doesn't boil."

Don't feel bad. By the way, I loved your ghost thread.

I agree with Dusty, however I do have one thing to add: Embrace off-topicness. People will be fun and crazy, and some of the most popular threads such as the DMCA and MCBP are ones that simply drift aimlessly from one topic to another. But most importantly, as Dusty said, HAVE FUN!!

                      Good morning, son
                      In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
                      It was pain
                      Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

I find, that if I want a successful thread, I just start shouting "OH NO!" and that seems to work, otherwise, I bring up booze and/or Anchorman
                        What an idiot....

Yeah, I do that Twitter thing.

Pretty much what Dusty said, but I'll add a few bits:

Welcome to the wonderful world of message boards - sometimes you'll end up with a lot of discussion on a topic, and sometimes, you'll end up with not even one response. Never ever take it personally. I've created numerous threads in the past that have died off faster than DCA's popularity.

                          Most importantly, just have fun.

I've always been afraid to even start any threads due to fear of rejection. What if nobody even reads it!!??? What if I get no replys at all!!!??? I'm really kinda a shy person and have a touch of insecurity.. but after reading Dusty and Disneyphiles comments.... maybe I'll get brave and someday start a thread that isen't a Happy Birthday to someone.

Apparently getting drunk before you post is a great way to make your thread popular... :yuck:

That's why my threads aren't that popular.

DCA was extremely popular when they were giving out free previews prior to opening. It stopped being popular when people had to pay for it.
