    Stitchy goes home..

A few of you know that my husband is military. And a few know that I am a Southern girl. Raised in Louisiana, (just north of Nawlins) and we spent the last 5 years (Katrina included) stationed on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I fell in love with the place. Biloxi and Ocean Springs are wonderful little beach towns, full of sweet people and good food. It's the only place we've been stationed that I felt was "home". Recently, we had the opportunity to spend 4 weeks back there and at my parents home in La. (a few of you might have missed me). Here are a few pictures in case anyone out there enjoys staring at pictures as much as I do.

    Me and hubby's favorite restaurant:

It's called Aunt Jenny's and has THE best fried pickles, and fried Shrimp...EVER! The restaurant is in a house that is actually on the National Historic Register. We love sitting near the windows (which over look the Back Bay) during sun set. Beautiful!

One of my husband's favorite eateries:

yes, scary looking...I know. It's a bar b q joint known as The Shed. It's in the middle of nowhere..but, becoming infamous..quick! It's won national awards, and (for those who are fans) will be on the show "drive ins, diners and dives) on the Food Network this fall. It's become so huge...the fans are called (get this) "shedheads". My husband would eat there everyday if he could.

Pardon the next pics...taken from moving vehicle.
The Hard Rock casino and hotel...

My second favorite. Great theming...(saw a Steven Tyler jumpsuit!)..and what can you say bad about a place that houses the coast's only Ben and Jerry's? Other than....their cocktail waitresses are accepting clothing donations...cause, their uniforms are just overgrown belts. Seriously.....send these chicks clothes. They MUST be freezing. I was SO glad to see this open...it was scheduled to open the day Katrina hit. It was torn to shreds. Residents found guitars, and other memoribilia washed up in their yards, and along the beach. Now, there's a section where you can view the things recovered. So, I was glad to see they weren't discouraged...I know it took ALOT of money to get the thing built twice, and they have a ton of respect from me for doing it!

    My favorite casino...The Beau Rivage.

This casino is the Bellagio's little sister. Beautiful place! Our neighbor in Ocean Springs did floral arrangements here. She had ALOT of work to do...and I always knew why. Big, beautiful flowers all over, marble floors, and in case you win big....you'll need that jewelry shop in the lobby. Pick me up a Rolex on your way out, k?

    Re: Stitchy goes home..

Now, I'm sure you think I've flipped for these weird pictures. But, there's a story. A main road in Biloxi and Gulfport runs along the beach. It was this road that housed the big, beautiful houses...(some antebellum). Sadly, none of those houses remain. And only a few are being rebuit. (Gladly, Beauvoir is returning). But, here you will find...along the median...where trees once stood...and only stumps remain..some wonderful person (artist) is carving them all into amazing shapes. There's owls, seahorses, pelicans, parrots. And each one, is just a wonderful testament that people are trying. They are all trying to turn the damage into something wonderful once again.

Pengy must like being tortured. Haha, more pictures!!!

BTW, Pengy....fried pickles are awesome! I looked at hubby weird when he got them, but, one taste..and I was hooked! Dill pickle chips, battered, deep fried, and served with ranch dressing. YUM!

Back bay at sunset. This is the marina on the Air Force base.

I LOVED the name of this boat...

we saw a raccoon eating a crab, and another one wandering in the grass. VERY cute!

              This beautiful house.....

isn't really a house. It's a funeral home! In one of my favorite places...downtown Ocean Springs! For those who are classic car fans, once a year, this place and Biloxi, Gulfport and Long Beach...are invaded by hundreds of classic car owners and lovers. "cruisin the coast" is a HUGE car show..downtown Ocean Springs shut down it's streets and classic cars lined the roads, along with bands. Great time. Once a year they do the same thing for local artists. You can find booths with pottery, paintings, and wood working. I miss this place. ~sigh~

A few last pictures....of the beach.

You can see he Beau Rivage in the background. That bridge is a happy thing for locals. This bridge leads from Ocean Springs to Biloxi. Up until a month before we moved, we had to go on the interstate, over a highway, and across another bridge to get to Biloxi. This wonderful bridge shaves 20 mins off a commute to the Air Force Base.

My little monkey enjoying the sand...

well, that's it, folks. We really enjoyed our time home. I got my fill on fried pickles, fried shrimp, poboys, and our favorite pizza and MExican places. I got two sunburns from enjoying the beach TOO much. And brought home WAAAY too many clothes from shopping at all my favorite stores. I really needed this moral and mood boaster and am thankful that God gave it to us. Hope you enjoyed the pics!

I LOVE Louisiana. There's nothing like it. The food, the music, the people. I recommend everyone go there at least once in their life. And go to Nawlins. You won't regret it!

Stitchy, those were wonderful photos. The beach water looks so calm and I love the sunset shot.

If I ever do go to Nawlins I'll be sure to make the point to have some Fried Pickles. Mmmm.

                  Thanks for sharing.

Great report and pictures. That last one of your daughter is gorgeous. Something must be going on in the world because this is the 3rd separate time I have heard of fried pickles in a week and had never even heard of them. I'll be watching for The Shed on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

My hubby's uncle lives in Gulf Port!! Small world! We've been through all of the little towns from NOLA to Pensacola, where my MIL lived! I LOVE the south too. So quaint, and, the food is to die for. Not to mention the beaches that look like they are covered in sugar, because of the white sand.

Great photos Stitchy! The black and white ones are really nice.
