  • Civil War Reenactment In Long Beach This Weekend.........

For those who might be interested, there will be a Civil War reenactment this weekend at El Dorado park in Long Beach. This is the first annual reenactment there. My unit, the 6th Wisconsin, will be there on Sunday. I hope it is a good turn out for all!!

I will be there along with my brother (Lost Boy) as spectators on Saturday (sorry I will miss you if you are only going on Sunday). My daughter's civilian group (Oak Street) will not be there this year. They had already planned their calendar for events to participate in when this event came up and many are gone this weekend (including my daughter). A couple of the gals will be going to see what it will be like.

I am very excited about this. This is an excellent venue and the fact that the city of Long Beach and Parks and Recreation is behind this is wonderful. My daughter made me a civil war period day dress and hat to wear so I will be in costume. Today I wore it to school (I am an aide) and spoke to the 5th grade classes about life during Civil War times. Any student who goes will be getting extra credit in class and the timing is perfect as they are studying the Civil War right now.

It's very interesting to see California somewhat embrace history. I mean, California is a state that embraces the "Now" aspect of life and seems to ignore it's past quite often.

Yes. Parking is $7.00 per car and admittance for adults is $10.

Regarding reenacting in California. When I became aware of this several years ago I was surprised to find that Civil War reenacting in California is a pretty big deal. I had no idea. I imagine that it doesn't match up to what happens back East and the South but I do believe we can hold our own out here. There are also other time period reenactors such as WW2, WW1, Viet Nam, you name it. In July (I think) they hold a big reenacting event in San Pedro that covers all time periods. It is a riot to see a WW2 solider talking to a Roman solider, etc.

Looking forward to a report. If any of my photos come out, maybe I can add them to your report.

I live very close to El Dorado Park. Is it in the park with the golf course restaurant or the part where you drive through the gate near the Nature Center? Oh, and what time does it start and end?
