  • I am now a disneyland CM. Several questions.

    Hi guys.

    1. I went in and got the job. Since they're overhiring I didn't get ANY of the positions I applied for, but the employer wasn't specific about what job other jobs were available and didn't give me any options as he wanted me to work with guests. (I am good with people but do not like working alone) Still very thankful for the job.

I have some questions about the position I got, but I would not like to reveal that here, please PM me for more. I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad position, but it seems like a rather boring one.

So, I ask, what are the good entry level positions? Any idea of what positions are available at disneyland(CA)? (I'm just curious.)

    2. If I disliked my position, how difficult would it be to transfer to a different position or area? I'm not going to complain at all but I'm just curious.

    3. Anyone here activily work in Disney and can provide some tips about my position? Do you guys ever meet up? lol.

    4. I know you guys get this a lot since I've been reading the threads here, but I look VERY similar to a certain face character, but I never see any options for auditions on the disney site? wtf? How hard is it to become a face character or even get an audition for one? I never see any roles for this. Who can I talk to for this stuff?

You can cross-train within your department after 4 months, and transfer out of your department within six months.

Sorry, by "cross-train" I meant to say inner-department transfer such as transferring from Tomorrowland Attractions to West-Side Attractions.

Though it seems that they've changed the rules... If you can transfer from Custodial to Attractions within 4 months, I don't see why they wouldn't let you transfer within your own department sooner.

All Disneyland Resort auditions opened to the public are posted at DisneyAuditions.com

Face characters can be very hard to get. I have some friends who auditioned time after time, and it wasn't until they got known within Entertainment that they were given a shot at a face role. For others they might get cast right away. It's really at the discretion of the Casting Director.

I actually thought I had to wait 4 months to cross train until I found out a lot of the people who were hired with me were already getting crossed trained. I asked a few CMs and my manager and they all said it's actually better to get crossed trained soon. The sooner the better.

As for transfers, I herd it takes a while, of course the 120 day probation but also they might not be hiring right now in that area. I wanna transfer to attractions, but since I just got converted to CR, I have to wait another 120 days and wait for an open position. hope that helps.

        Six months? Why so long?

Is cross training doing training for several positions at the same time?
I also want to transfer to the attractions. Is CR custodial? Why would you transfer there?

I am new too so I am not sure exactly why its six months but my best guess is so you try something out and see if its something you grow to love or so they don't waste as much money training you in something they need and you switch shortly after.

I believe cross training is when they train you so you can work multiple attractions. I don't know if they cross train other departments but I know my brother started on grizzly and was cross trained for stinger and maliboomer.

CR stands for casual regular which i believe just is basically part time.. CT is casual temporary which i think is just seasonal.

And although custodial might not seem like the most glorious department, it is a lot of fun. We get to interact with the guests a lot answering questions and making magical moments. Plus being able to work in many different areas, walk around and see everyone and everything that is going on makes it the best job for me.

The best thing I can say is don't start work planning on transferring.. Go in with an open mind and make the best out of what they give you.. It might surprise you how much you like it and you might not want to transfer in the end after all.

It's actually not 6 months anymore, it's 4. And cross training happens in all departments, not just attractions. I work in stores and you can cross train to be hat writer, Games of the Boardwalk, lead, watchmaker on main st, collectables, and a lot of other different positions.

You are right about CT and CR. As far as attractions goes, that just depends on your preference, if you want to be constantly busy and under pressure, than that the right one for you. If you want to take it nice and easy, custodial might be an ideal choice. Everyone is different you will never know if you end up loving your department. I didn't at first, but now I do!

You can transfer to a different department after 4 months of being in your current position. The application is on The Hub.

The rules used to be that you had to be working within your current position for 4 months before asking to transfer within your department, and wait 6 months before you could transfer out of your department (either way you'll end up losing your seniority).

I hired in a long time ago ('83) and left in '94. Obviously things have probably changed since I worked at the park, but at the time, moving from one area to another within the attractions area was almost impossible. If you were Tomorrowland attractions, that's basically where you stayed unless you became a B or A. Transfer requests from foods and merchandise and ODV into attractions were honored quite often, but if you were already in attractions, not easy at all.
