  • A few questions for all my fellow cast members

I'm a new cast member and I have a few questions that I didn't want to ask at orientation. First, can you have another cast member take a shift I don't want? How long does training last? How does complimentry entry to the park for my famly work? What day do we get paid? Thank you for your answers.

    1. Yes.

    2. Depends on the role. You will receive a Training Schedule at your Traditions class.

    3. You'll receive a Main Entrance Pass in the post, with instructions on how to use it.

    4. EPCOT = Every Paycheque Comes on Thursdays

I think you actually get it at "Welcome to". I did at least. I was in Welcome to Park Ops.

The Welcome To classes are new within the last year or so. The only department that had one was Foods, the others were about 60 days into your employment. Depending on your department you will get you schedule either at Traditions or Welcome to.

The answer to #1 is not a hard yes, IMO.

Generally speaking, you have to trade shifts with somebody. This can cause some very confusing situations in terms of overtime and turnover time, but Scheduling basically does this so that they don't have to deal with it - you do.

Giving away shifts requires management approval and an arm + leg (in Foods, at least).

Giving away shifts in Attractions is typically not a problem as long as it does not give the other cast member overtime. Also the 9 hour turn around time is important. Even picking up a 6th day is typically not a problem unless it gives you overtime.

Now what is "turn around time"?

BTW, paychecks come out on Wednesday, that is if you have an actual check delivered to your house. If you signed up for Direct Deposit, it's Thursdays. I had the checks for a month before I switched to Direct Deposit.

That means the amount of time between one day's shift and the next. You cannot trade for a shift that will cause you to have less than 9 hours between the end of one shift and the start of the next.

For example, you cannot have a closing shift ending at 1AM and have an opening shift at 8AM right after.

I had the distinct pleasure of getting both Line of Business and Welcome to Park Ops! Woohoo!
