  • A few questions about applying at Disneyland.

    1. I'm moving to California in June. When is the best time I should apply? I don't know if I have to apply months ahead of time, or what.
    2. Is it better to apply in person, or will applying online be fine?
    3. I'd like to work as either a CM or a costumed character. Do I apply for both, or what? How's that work?
    4. Do you have any tips for applying?

    Thanks for any help.

Easiest way to apply, on line. They will let you know if anything is open..They left me an e-mail two days after I applied. I interviewed 1 week later was told I would hear something within 3 months...They called me back three days later. Been a cast member since Nov. 6th

From all the CMs I've talked to, they've told me to be extremely patient and it can sometimes take months to hear from them (so apply early!) Some said it may even take applying multiple times before you get a call. It also depends on what jobs you are applying for. Some positions are more popular than others.
I applied in November for a job in Guest Relations and haven't heard anything back. A CM in the department told me it's a small group of people, so it can take awhile to be hired in. One guide told me she applied, got called in a month or so later for an interview and then didn't find out she got the job until 4 months later. There are also stories about people getting offered jobs in the same day... So the hiring process seems to vary from person to person. Also, the more availability you give them the better... especially Fri-Sun.

For characters you have to go to an audition.

Apply as early as you can, and tell them when you will be able to start. You have to be patient though. I applied last may, got the email notice to setup an interview in October (a week before I'd have to reapply), interviewed early November, and started later in November.

I think costumed characters have to audition, but don't quote me on that. Your best bet would be to call and ask. Don't ever be afraid to call and ask questions.

Lastly, be persistent. If you want a certain position, stress how much you want it. If you're offered another position, you can consider it, but just remember that it isn't that easy to transfer (or so I've heard).

A family member who's a CM applied a lot online, but online takes longer to get a response, so she went to TDA and applied, and within a week, she had an interview, and soon after, she got the job, though after applying for the multiple positions online, including that one, she never got a response, so I'd go to TDA and apply in person and online.

            Thanks, all of you.

I really want to apply right now, because as mentioned, it could take months--but what if I get hired before I move?

Quick note: everyone who works at Disneyland (actually all of the Disney Company) is a "Cast Member." So, you would be applying for a "Cast Member" position.

I know, I just didn't know how to phrase it at the time. :shy:

There is a place on the application to specify what date you are available to begin working.

A little tip, I know a family friend who knows someone who works at the TDA office and he told him that they are filled up and won't be doing anymore hiring until March 1st for Spring Break that will last until March through beginning of June with possibility of part time employment after. He also said the best thing to do is apply in person at the TDA building and not online because 90% of the time they will give you an interview right on the spot, so dress professional looking. I'm planning on going down near the middle of Feburary to apply.

EDIT: Also, don't expect to always get what you apply for. You may of applied for Rides but they may throw you in Parking. They will put you where they feel you are best suited, but you can always change departments later on.

                        Thanks! That's good to know.

Thanks! Do you know about full time positions? And can I apply online now, then apply in person in late May or early June?

Why does the site say you have to wait 6 months before applying again? I think I'll wait and go apply in person in late Feb or early March instead if that's the case. Is that a good idea?

You are only allowed to apply once every six months.

It seems like applying in person sounds like a good idea since a few people here have said you are likely to get interviewed right on the spot. I wish I would've known that before I applied online

When you go in person, they make you apply on the computer anyways, so it really is the same if you apply in person or online. I applied online and I've been with the company for 6 months now. It all just depends on what you perfer to do. And yes it is different for everyone. I got a email for an interview a week after applying and got the job about a month and a half after the interview.

The new method of casting is to apply online, you cannot apply in person anymore.

If you show up, they will direct you to the computers and have you do it there.

And, yes, you can only apply every 6 months.

It took my wife about 6 months to get hired. She applied on line, and then called a lot to follow up. They just kept saying they had nothing, then one day they called her and after about 3 interviews they hired her.

I get the feeling they are hiring all the time, but they get so many applications that it takes months before your turn come around.

Pretty much all positions start at part time. And nowadays they won't let you apply in person. (If you know someone and they can get you an interview that might be one thing) My son went down there the other day in person with referral card from my wife - and they said, "apply online"
