I am looking into working at the DL next year, and I really want to go into characters. But I was wondering what a face audition actually entails?

Be prepared to dance. Dancing is a good way for them to gauge how you might move as a character. They'll teach you a routine and you'll have to perform it --- even if you're not a dancer. They want to see how you move.
There's also a lot of improv. They'll say things like, "Show me how Snow White would open a jar of pickles" or something weird like that.
And it can take a long time. It depends on how many cuts you survive."George Bush... is only for now."

Re: Character auditions
May I recommend that you try really hard to not get Snow White. My roommate was shredding her vocal chords doing that voice all day long and then they took her off Cindy (as in, she only did Snow from then on) so she didn't even get a break. The King is back and he's ready to kick some tail. Do not mess with a mouse in black.

Re: Character auditions
If you are interested in auditioning, now is the time. They are currently casting for just about every kind of character talent there is.

Re: Character auditions
it all depends on who is casting, and what faces they like. 35 out of the 150 that show up may work, or even more, but they will take just as many as they need depending on what they need, which could just a few. and whatever face stands out to the casting director.
for overseas parks, they hold auditions in america. Tokyo usually has them once or twice a year or so in socal and florida.
hong kong did auditions in socal I believe, but the info was not that widely known. and they were not doing male face, only female.
sometimes tokyo will not hold face character auditions depending on if they people they have over there are extending their contracts for another half a year. some have stayed for several years, but most just do the 6 or 7 months they are contracted for.
many of the face characters you see at disneyland resort are picked for tokyo in the tokyo auditions.

Re: Character auditions
Random question: what should one wear to face auditions? Regular clothes or dance ready attire?

Re: Character auditions
Friends with Goofy..... hmmm. Well in short it really wouldn't matter. They sometimes ask if you were a former character before the audition process but that doesn't guarantee being selected. It does help but from what I've seen and heard they are a little more selective than WDW. Some people get picked up and some don't. Some people that were face in WDW don't get face at DLR. A lot depends on your audition... don't rely on your other park experience to get you hired.
And for what you would wear to a face audition... comfortable clothes that you can easily move around in. Athletic attire would be your best option.
