I am looking into working at the DL next year, and I really want to go into characters. But I was wondering what a face audition actually entails?

    good question (aka: BUMP!)
You would think that being in New York for eight months out of the year would be cool...not when the closest thing you have to Disneyland is the World of Disney Store on Madison.

Be prepared to dance. Dancing is a good way for them to gauge how you might move as a character. They'll teach you a routine and you'll have to perform it --- even if you're not a dancer. They want to see how you move.

There's also a lot of improv. They'll say things like, "Show me how Snow White would open a jar of pickles" or something weird like that.

And it can take a long time. It depends on how many cuts you survive.

May I recommend that you try really hard to not get Snow White. My roommate was shredding her vocal chords doing that voice all day long and then they took her off Cindy (as in, she only did Snow from then on) so she didn't even get a break.

Being able to sing is very helpful for face characters. I knew one guy who almost got Aladdin but missed at the very last cut because they didn't like his singing voice enough.

If you are interested in auditioning, now is the time. They are currently casting for just about every kind of character talent there is.

i'm not a character there or anything, but i do remember when i auditioned, i got to know a girl who's cousin was Jasmine, and apparently was taken to Disneyland Hong Kong or something like that because she made such a good one. i felt like this girl at the auditions was a perfect Jasmine, she was beautiful! but they didn't take her, even though she did have "connections." but you know what, you never know! networking and connections are pretty much what our society runs on, so good luck!

                              Re: Character auditions

it all depends on who is casting, and what faces they like. 35 out of the 150 that show up may work, or even more, but they will take just as many as they need depending on what they need, which could just a few. and whatever face stands out to the casting director.

for overseas parks, they hold auditions in america. Tokyo usually has them once or twice a year or so in socal and florida.
hong kong did auditions in socal I believe, but the info was not that widely known. and they were not doing male face, only female.

sometimes tokyo will not hold face character auditions depending on if they people they have over there are extending their contracts for another half a year. some have stayed for several years, but most just do the 6 or 7 months they are contracted for.
many of the face characters you see at disneyland resort are picked for tokyo in the tokyo auditions.
